I finally got around to trying this, after having tried the german sponge version which I quite likes. I didn't get the opportunity to do some sytematic testing, but here are some of my thoughts:

The topsheet looks immaculate like all these Kokutaku rubbers, and is fairly tacky. With the soft sponge you can really feel the ball on the blade.

This rubber really has 2 different gears... for the softer shots you're mainly using the topsheet, and it's not all that fast, but offer very good control and spin.

But when you hit it harder and digs it into the sponge, there is a big boost in speed, producing fairly fast and very spinny loops. It would probably run out of puff if you go too far from the table, but for close to mid distance it loops very well. It does not produce the speed of Globe 999 Nat, but close to the spin, and it's a lot lighter.

It reacted very well to glue, giving it at least a 20% boost in speed.

A nice rubber, playing much more euro than chinese, even though it's tacky...

Yes they are nice. The sponges are the same as those used on the likes Butterfly, Nittaku, etc... There's probably just 1 or 2 factories that make all the sponges...

So would the Avalox jap sponges be the same as the kokutaku sponges, and would they be better than the Globe jap sponges?

I don't know, but the kokutaku sponges feel of very high quality.
