Post subject:  Inverted Rubber review format / proforma - PLEASE USE THIS!

We've dicussed having some sort of standard proforma of rubber (inverted) rubbers before here:
http://forum.oneofakindtrading.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3212&highlight=template

I thought it would be worthwhile to re-address, so that we've for something standard for future reviews.

Below I've summarised the basic structure from the earlier thread.

I think it's important to know that if you do a review, you DON'T have to fill in ALL the sections. You can just do what you're able to do, and the proforma just serves as a reminder of all the different aspects to look at.

Here is what I propose... feel free to comment on changes/addition so that we can get it into it's final shape!

Quote:
1. The reviewer: A little about your level and style, and blade used to test the rubber.

2. Physical Properties: Mention colour, sponge thickness, sponge hardness (guess or compare to similar), quality of sheet, grippy or tacky/sticky, any unusual features (eg dome), unusual packing, etc

3. Speed:
- Speed on slow strokes (eg Tensors typically have a high speed here where you can generate decent speed with little effort, chinese tacky sheets tend to be slow here)
- Speed on power loops
- Speed on power drives/smashes

4. Spin:
- Spin on a loops is probably the most meaningful information here, as others tend to be too subjective to strokes
- Spin on serves/pushes

5. Control:
How easy it is to control the rubber on blocks, pushes (short game), loop placement, etc

6. Other Playing properties: Mention the Throw (ie for a loop, at what angle does the ball come off compared to other rubbers... ball going higher means higher throw), sensitivity to incoming spin, glue effect/feel, sound, rubber bottoming out on hard loops, etc

7. Reference: Comparison with at least one rubbers on some of the factors above.

8. Other comments Other unique properties...

This is a great idea, it will make it easier for newbies to post reviews, and it will make every review more thorough and universal. Thus, it will be easier to compare different equipment.

All for it,
It would make comparisons much easier and also help the reviewer structure his info and concnetrate more on reporting the real info.

Excellent haggisv. Some consistency at last in how reviews are done.

One question, what will happen to the existing reviews on the forum which don't meet this format. Will the equipment affected have to be reviewed again?

Debater I think that's up to the reviewer. Any info on equipment is better than none, so its all worthwhile having. If someone wants to come along and do a review in this format where there is an existing review, just gives another piece of information into the kit. If that person is different to the first it gives another perspective. If they're the same, then it gives an update. Its always a WIN!

I'll add this thread to the beginning of the review index for anyone considering doing a review after reading some.

Some other optional sections could be:

the marketing spiel,

spin reversal (for pip reviews)

Other rubbers used and how they compare

Also probably reminder to say what color, what sponge thickness, cost perhaps (just as rough guide).

That's all I can think of for now.

The only thing you have forgotten is this: to sticky this thread
Very nice, and in the future I will use this standard for my reviews

Don't need to sticky it cstt, its linked in the equipment review thread. Seem like an appropriate place?

A, better. But maybe it's usefull to say it is our standard for a review. If you hadn't said it to me I wouldn't have notived.

Just a suggestion. Why not start a new equipment reviews index rather than just the equipment "general index" we have know? It can be used for reviews only - not the "does anyone know or can they recommend a rubber or blade for me question"

The stickies about rubber mass data base, equipment index, sponge hardness stickies could be moved over in to it and it be made clear that there is an agreed format for posting reviews.

The reviews could then be linked easily to the products you carry in your on line store haggisv.

If there is to be a template for what should be in a review, can we agree on a consistent format for the the "subject" title for these reviews as this will help with the "search" facilities on the forum, even if it's as simple as "Make & Name & Colour & Sponge Thickness"

I'd also like "sponge thickness used" to be included as part of the review as this definitely affects the playing characteristics of a rubber and how much playing time the rubber has been used before the review was written.

And I'd like..... gee it's like being a little boy and writing out that wish list for Santa!

Thanks guys! I think I've implimented all the extra bits you mentioned... I've updated the title, and stickied the thread...

If you have any mre comments on this, please post it here, so that we can continue to improve it...

Sure debater, you can maintain it ok?

I'll stop updating mine then, no point in having both huh?

edit: btw, you may not realise but the only "do you know about this rubber?" type threads that make it into the review index are one's where there is actually some decent info having been provided. This took a great deal of effort to decide this as to what went and it what didn't. Its not just all been dumped in based on a rubber or blade name.
