Yesterday, I had an older bat out with one of my first sheets of Energy. This particular sheet chipped around the edges quite a bit and lost one big chunk near the tip of the blade. It is red. I have other sheets that are just as old but this one chipped the worst of all. I kept noticing little bits of red rubber on the table yesterday, thats what got me to thinking about it again.
When I cleaned it, I could see the finish on the rubber was different than the other red Energys. The cleaner "almost" seemed like it was repelled by the rubber. The finish was shinier. This rubber has been used, cleaned and protected the same as the others.
I remember when I first started using Energy, there was some people complaining about it being brittle. I think now, there might have been a bad batch. It plays the same as the others. It is the only sheet I have that shows these symptoms.

Thats OK Speedplay,
I was just commenting for anybody that might have had the same thing happen. Seems like it was a year ago or so. None have done it since. ( about 12 sheets ) :D

yes I have an old black sheet of energy here! The topsheet is shiny. But's chipped quite badly and the sponge is dead. This why I don't like the rubber!

Hi Sunflex,
I have other sheets that do not show this chipping. Some have been treated with 4 layers of EEII even. Must have been a bad batch.
It is still my fav rubber. I think the sponge goes away after about 100 hours of use if you are an off+ type player. Still usable but not the same. :D

I use F1 and everything is ok, but my friend's are chipping on the periphery. He plays twice as much as me, and the only reason I can think of is that the ball hits the periphery area more often.

That could be aeoliah,
I check the pattern on my bat ( left by the ball ) and it averages 3 inches in the center but I have seen other people with much bigger patterns. Use a new ball and it is easy to see.
This is the same area where the sponge dies first. :D

German Tensor rubbers all seem very brittle to me and they tend not to last too long as well

You are right LAW, but what else plays similar to them? I have found some faster, but not the spin, I have found spinnier but not the speed. I also prefer low throw. Wish I could try everything,,,, :D

Thats the thing, nothing plays like german tensor. The tension Jap rubbers are faster but the feel and spin is nowhere near as nice. The chinese rubbers aren't even close.
