Hi: Would anybody know which of current rubbers and blade would most closely match the Bergmann hardbat of old. From what I am led to believe this would basically mean the slowest and most suited to defence.

I suggest a blade from YLTonlin.co.uk or valortabletennis for something that is designed after the classics.

For rubber, I'd suggest Valor's Premier rubber or possibly Andro Classic if you are a chopper.

The closest of the two cheaper hardbat rubbers (Dr. Evil and Peacekeeper) is Gambler Peacekeeper OX.

Thanks wturber

Long term I'd be looking to chop, backhand flick and pick hit.

I've got Dr Evil on a Toni Hold at the moment, but don't particuarly like the short handle. I have got a single sheet of peacekeeper which I could try.

Are you saying contact those companies and tell them what you want and they'll build one or do they have some in stock.

The only other hardbat rubber I've tried is the Reisman, that was on a nice piece of wood too; but was a little quicker than my set up.

I'm looking for a Bergmann blade if you know of anyone with one. I know someone who has one, but it's inaccesible at the moment and I from what I can gather was well used (the bottom might be chopped flat).

There are several models of Bergmann bats, made by Slazenger, Jaques, Dobbycraft... Do you know the model you're looking for ?

No, sorry I had the impression their was only one, I had it recommended so I'll try and find out. I think they said it was 5 ply and had a bit of rubber on the handle if that narrows it down. Thanks.

You're welcome, but I fear you won't find it very easily, because this model is very rare. These two bats are the property of the ITTF Museum, and I never saw another one somewhere else, even on Ebay.

I know someone with one, but it's somewhere in an attic and by all acounts the bottom side is chopped nearly flat so I was looking for one in better order.

I had it recommended by a guy who played all his life with a barna bat and still had 1 original barna on the blade (50+ year old barna rubber, he put a sheet of black pips on 1 side to almost comply with black red/brown rule, though seen as the brown side had no pips left, was melted where his finger had layed and as a result floated when he chopped it may have technically fallen foul of another rule or two as well). He gave this bat to a club when he reitred, but as I play more defensive he recommended I look for this blade. O/T He actually played Victor Barna with this bat too, in an exhibition, if he'd got it signed it might have been worth a bit.

Thanks, what a weird shape; I was a bit concerned when it said lightest. However 85g isn't too bad. I notice valor is in your sig, have you had chance to play with any of those blades?

I make the Valor Blades and Valor Premier rubber. I also play with them. Currently I am using a Valor Champion blade for both sponge play (with Tenergy 64 and TSP P1r LP 1mm) and for hardbat.

I really like this blade. The more I play with it the more it feels like it is becoming part of my hand as I play.

CHEERS!!!
