Seeing how there aren't a huge number of hardbat rubbers available, I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet, and solid info is lacking. Basically, I think we should make a list of hardbat rubbers with their dimensions and general characteristics, and if someone like gnipgnopster logs on, I'm sure he can finish up this list in a flash.

I think data on each rubber should be in regards to their pip dimensions, pip hardness, friction, and whatever misc. comments one can offer. Please contribute if you have used any rubbers that aren't yet pegged, which is all of them at the moment. I'll start off the list with two examples, one of which is no longer approved as a hardbat rubber and another which just happens to come in OX and I've tried, so refer to the official 'approved' list if in doubt.

Hallmark Magic Pips
Pip Dimensions: Very wide, conical. Grid pattern on top.
Pip Hardness: Medium. Can flex using thumb with effort.
Friction: Very high.
Misc.: Topsheet is not always consistent, with some clusters of pips sometimes being slightly bigger or a few stragglers lacking a conical base.

Yinhe Uranus
Pip Dimensions: Medium-wide, straight. Smooth on top.
Pip Hardness: Hard. Difficult to flex with thumb.
Friction: High.

Andro Classic
Pip Dimensions: ?????

Great idea abdulmuhsee! I hope we get some input from others, as we don't have that many hardbat players here as yet. :(

Just thinking about this.. My LKT Toxic 3 blade is on the way, so I'm thinking hardbat rubbers at the moment. I'm not going to be using this is any sort of tournament, let alone in Classic Hardbat competition (and it'll likely not get used all that much at all anyhow.. ) so I can use what I like on it - even put inverted or long pips on it, I suppose, but I do want a reasonable hardbat. Dr. Evil IS available locally, and at a good price, but.. only in red. Of course, I COULD put red on both sides (with the possible effect of much ribbing about "illegal bats"). I COULD put a black sheet of upside-down 804 (supposedly the same thing as Dr. Evil) on the other side (would have to cut off the ID strip, of course.. just mount it upside down in the other direction). OR I could get one of the other rubbers on the list (which are dramatically more expensive. OR...

Well, here's a thought. Looking through Eacheng on AliExpress, there's 729 802. It's in the Bald Eagle packaging. AND it's cheap. Bloody cheap. And about to get (slightly) cheaper with this upcoming sale:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Playa-P ... 20913.html

(Unfortunately no 802-40 topsheets..)

But I wonder why it's not included on the Approved List. Is it because it's too spinny?? Too unlike Leyland?? Or did they just get lazy and decide not to include every single short pips OX rubber available out there (someone has to test it, right)?? Or they limited the list to keep things simple?? Or maybe 802 wasn't available in OX a few years ago when they came up with the list?

I'll probably get a pair of sheets regardless, the price is too good. Maybe even two pairs of sheets. But I wonder what I'd be missing by not going Dr. Evil. By the way, the other possible hardbat rubber from the same source is Dawei 388B. But it's about double the price (maybe I'll just get one of these).

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-sh ... 90654.html

Apparently some of these are JTTA-marked.

Everything else is medium or long pips. Mind you, in the old days some of those hardbat rubbers MIGHT have been long/medium pips..

Going to the original post - doesn't look there's been much progress on filling out the table...

Which approved list?

ITTF approves only the covering, so 802 is entirely approved.

If you mean the USA hardbat list, who cares?

Yeah, the US list. Apparently enough people care that it's been discussed in the past. The list is here:

http://www.hardbat.com/hbCoverings.html

Is there another list used in Europe? What's to prevent someone from using medium pips or long pips in hardbat competition (I know there is organized Hardbat competition in Europe) if there isn't a list?

I think it depends on the tournament. In the UK, the following rules have been seen:

Quote:
Only approved "HEATT" hardbat rubber will be permitted for use throughout the competition.

Hardbat Approved Rubbers
Leyland (Hock rubber)
ATP England Leland Era
Reisman ATP
Dunlop Barna Original
Butterfly Orthodox
Andro Classic
Friendship 802
Friendship 802-1
Friendship 802-40
TSP Miracle
Hallmark Magic Pips
Friendship RITC-729 "Dr. Evil"
Winning NP-1
Winning NP-8
Joola Orthodox

Any Blade may be used. 1 ply, 3 ply, 5 ply, 7 ply (including Graphite, Carbon, Balsa etc)
The Rubber MUST be IDENTICAL on both sides of the blade. Red / Black rule does NOT apply.
Any short pimpled rubber (No Sponge) as defined by the manufactures will be permitted.
PLEASE CONTACT THE ORGANIZER IF YOUR RUBBER IS NOT ON THE ABOVE LIST

So basically there's a list, but if you're using something that's clearly a SP rubber without sponge that isn't on the list, the organiser may be happy to permit it.

So 802 IS "on the list". Yeah, I'll go ahead and use it in that case. No need for Dr. Evil. Still, it leaves me wondering what makes Dr. Evil different.

Incidentally - cheapest 802 is here for the next three days:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2x-RITC ... 91196.html

$4.12 a sheet!! Let's see what else they have. This is NOT Eacheng, no idea how good they are.
