A good match! It does seem like a lot of mistakes are made though...

The rallies are not any longer in general than most double inverted matches. Hardbat today is nothing like 50 years ago. I think the ITTF is making a big mistake thinking changes in equipment will make for much longer rallies.

Unfortunately a one sided match, the lefty did not have a chance.

Question, do they have over 60 hardbat tournaments? I think I might even have a chance. :)

The do have an O60 category in the U.S. Open and U.S. Nationals. The U.S. Open O60 was won this year by the penholder above. In addition, he won the OPEN hardbat competition so he is also our current United States hardbat national champion at 60+ years of age.

Xin is rated 2366 and this is the first decent video I've seen of him.

+1

These days everyone just plays inverted strokes. This is nothing like the game of the so-called golden era.

Hi Tatlwai, it was great to finally meeting you in San Diego! Hopefully you can visit us soon in LA... I would even play hardbat with you if you wish. :)

No wonder, Xin has good attacks on both sides, and, he knew exactly how to set them up. Too bad he didn't use shakehand grip, otherwise I can learn something good.

The last time I watch a US hardbat tournament (think it was in Las Vegas), it was won by a young (20's) white player who is very good with invert on both sides too; just forgot his name. He played against a mid 20's lady who played defense.

Hi William, it was good to finally meet you in person too, and thanks for approaching me first. If I ever visit LA again near your club, I will let you know.

With your set up, I am sure you shouldn't have too much problem playing hardbat at all. By the way, I love your backhand kill on those slow high loops, they didn't know what happened; they didn't have a chance.

I played against Jeff Johnston a few years ago, right before the frictionless LP ban went into effect. His rating then was @ 2040. He was still playing with Dr. N. Inferno, but I had already switched to other LP. Since I had played with Inferno for a couple years, I knew how the rubber acted. I was the only one to beat him on that day. But, he can be a tough opponent. He didn't fare too well here, though. Thanks for posting this video--hardbat is always fun to watch.

Lots of attack in that match, Its a pity no umpire so we can see the scores
and the penholder actually serves with the ball dropping (yes Im a broken record) lol
