Sad to read about the passing of Johnny Leach, who I believe was the last living world table tennis champion from the hardbat era. He won the world championship twice and, yes, he was a chopper.

What a lovely article by Ian Marshall on the ITTF website.

England has lost its greatest player. His record proves that. What a shame the Second World War probably prevented him from winning even more titles.

I actually read his book. Found it in the County Library. I think it was the one that had a hardbat section and a sponge section for learning the strokes.
