Post subject:  3-PLY Hock VS. Valor American Chopper

I have played many years with my 3-ply Hock with BTY Orthodox and have come to appreciate it's fine touch and it's allround elements. I recently purchased a Valor American Chopper 5 PLY Valor Premier Rubber and find it is a different animal from the Hock. Firstly the balance and weight are different in that the Hock feels a bit more top heavy.

Feel: The American Chopper has more vibration and feedback compared to my Hock. The feel of my Hock is more muted but in a good way. Can feel the American Chopper flex a bit more and the dwell is greater for softer shots.

Speed: American Chopper has gears as does the Hock however the American Chopper has a "passing" gear that can send the ball at lightning speed with full power hit.

Spin Generation. I believe both blades can generate good spin however I find BTY Orthodox superior in this category. Yes I can loop with it. :)

Chopping: This is simple, the Hock chops better close/mid while the American Chopper excels at mid/away from table.

The American Chopper is a fine blade with excellent build quality with great feeling oval ST grip. My old Hock is like fine old wine but can be cranky at times but still feels an old friend. The American Chopper is a superb blade but will take more practice hours to tame it's character.

Another "sleeper blade" is the Valor Big Stick but that will have to be another review.
