Some very good points, so many people believe that table tennis involves you standing in one spot and moving your arm about. True table tennis is great exercise!

Never. There is no glamour in this sport. The "look" is just not there. The only chance of TT coming close to breaking this seemingly insurmountable barrier will come within itself, i.e. increased player participation that may lead to change this perception, but that is not very likely to happen with the ITTF bent on pi**ing off its most valuable asset, the players and associations.

Is ping pong the next FITNESS craze? Someone is surely joking!!! Fitness? Has anyone looked at the fat, old men on one leg standing at the table blocking like crazy, because they don't want to be the one who has to do all that walking to retrieve the ball? Fitness? I've seen fitter residents at the old folks' home than some of the guys I play with. Fitness? There's a famous video clip of a US2000+ player where the camera shakes whenever he walks. Fitness? I'd laugh if it wasn't so pitiful.

Yes there is fitness in table tennis Tassie, Sure there are some that dont work hard and make it lazy for them. Table tennis is a game where anyone can play. Are you mad that a person in a wheel chair does not move as well as one that can walk??. Table tennis is the only sport,,and yes Tas I call it a sport that it does not matter how good you are, your color of your skin, your political issues or religious ideals. WE want to play a game that gives us something to enjoy and that my freind is WHY I play. In 40 years of playing I have played young and old. Over weight and skinny and even those in wheel chairs. I had a great time everytime I played. The events that I did not enjoy is watching the better players who do not enjoy playing lesser players or players who may knock down a barrier and think they do not have to pick it up or follow any rules that others may have, *( played those ***holes before )
As far as FITNESS, I play to get better and develope my game as well as mentor other players. I move from the time I get to the club non-stop for around 3 hours. From an aerobic stand point 20 minutes of vigorious play = 1 aerobic mile. And studys do show that Table Tennis helps in Dementia as well as Azlheimers to improve there congitive thinking.

Peace GIG

Anyone that tells me table tennis isn't a hard game, I take a box of 300 balls and make them hit all 300 balls on the Falkenberg drill. Most doubters will be wobbly after 50 balls and give up after 100, not even a warm ups worth for a fit player

in Ireland lots of the colleges play table tennis competitively( within the country some play internationally.. some).. there is a league but its only a two day event( for obvious reasons) , which i may try and change and create some what of a union. where we have matches on a regular basis.

as for myself i believe table tennis to be demanding the better you get at it. i weight about 75 Kg. and i sweat ferociously after a game or two( at a high level) if i am playing someone at a much lower level it would take much longer.

so yeah. like some one said earlier it is you that makes the game demanding depending on how they treat the game..

Table tennis is a boring sports for the spectator. But for the players, it is always challenging. You can not improve your game far away if your are not physically fit enough. I myself is losing steam on my 4th game and tends to defend..
