ITTF.com has such a strong viewship that it's ranked 3rd out of all Olympic International Federations

ITTF.com, the home of the International Table Tennis Federation has been ranked the 3rd most popular of all Summer Olympic International Federations websites, according to the website statistic company Alexa.com.

This ranking was based on the amount of hits obtained over the last 3 months on ITTF.com, which was 3rd only to FIFA.com, who claimed top spot and ITFTENNIS.com, who was in 2nd.

ITTF President Adham Sharara stated: "These finding are an accurate reflection of the global popularity of Table Tennis. We have the 2nd highest number of National Federation in the Olympic movement at 217, and we are the 2nd highest participated sport in the world. So it is very satisfying to turn these participation numbers into hits on ITTF.com."

ITTF's online streaming platform itTV (ITTF.com/itTV) also went from strength to strength in 2012, attracting over a cumulative audience of 38,379,121 to watch the 20 events streamed live.

In addition to these impressive figures, ITTF ranks very highly on its social media platforms, having the 4th highest amount of 'likes' on Facebook (over 77,000) from the Summer Olympic sports and an ever growing presence on Twitter and YouTube.

ITTF is looking forward to continuing its strong digital presence in 2013, with ITTF.com being revamped, and further develop the itTV platform. ITTF will also begin to stream selected events live on YouTube, whilst continuing the development of Facebook and Twitter.

Although the Alexa ranking is noteriously unreliable and can easily manipulated, it's still impressive how they're raking so well. They need to work on better ways to convert this traffic into active players.

PS Alexa depends on people having the Alexa toolbar installed in their browser and allowing their traffic to be tracking for statistical purposes. So the stats comes from only the small perrcentage of people that have this toolbar installed. It's also well known that people can 'buy' hits, most likely from networks setup purely to generate hits to increase Alexa ranking. Despite this the Alexa ranking is still commonly used to selling websites, as a measure of how successful the website is.

Looks like an inflated number to me.

First, they can not count audience, they can only count IP-addresses. Private internet users usually get dynamic IP-addresses, which means every time they disconnect and re-connect they get a different IP-address.

Second, 20 events means a lot of videos. I counted videos from the 2013 Kuwait Open, there was 120 of them. Let us say, there are 20 important videos per event, so you have 400.

Then we get 100,000 IP-addresses per video on average. If we assume that on average a viewer watched only 10 videos from those 20 1 time each, we will get maximum 200,000 persons worldwide watching itTV more or less regularly. Maybe 2% of the players worldwide, not impressive at all.

THanks roundrobin, there's certainly some truth in that.

I don't think it's quite right about the dynamic IPs though... you generally keep the same IP for a long time )days or weeks), you don't automatically get a new one every time you log out.

As Haggisv mentioned, Alexa is well known to be able to be manipulated. You can't really go by that.

Quantcast.com says ittf.com is too small to even measure.

Compete.com lists their estimated unique viewers as between 7k and 13k, not millions.

Considering it's an international organisation, that's indeed not very high (if it's accurate).
