I though the world vets championship was in Sweden. Well, despite the misleading claim in the article, it's a nice story.

Si Wasserman truly wrote the book on table tennis a half-century ago. For his contributions to the game on varied fronts, the Oceanside resident was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame six years ago. And now, at age 90, Wasserman has achieved his greatest accomplishment in competition. Just call him world champion as the winner at the World Senior Games in the division for ages 90 and older on Oct. 8 in St. George, Utah. “Absolutely, a thrill,” Wasserman said. “Overall, this (sport) is mostly responsible for me reaching my 90s. It’s the exercise.”

I often joke that table tennis is the fountain of youth. I do think that half of what I believe is a joke because I'm an empirical sort of guy - you know, it needs scientific method (fair enough, I say) - but there is a part of me that feels in his gut that this is kind of true. I look around my club at all the agile 70+ year olds and think that's weird. Really weird. Why weird? Because this society has a persuasive way of showing that when you reach a venerable age you need to book into nursing care.

Forget it, I'm thinking. I'll stick to table tennis.
