I contacted Mr. Takizawa (Donic Japan) again to inform him about how things are with Shiono and if he changed equipment with the release of Donic Spike. Here's his answer:

Hello,
Thank you for your mail.
Yes, we are fine and hope you and your members are still fine.

Now Shiono release his own DVD from Japanese TT magazine.

http://www.iruiru.com/goods_page.php?ct=V&mk=M&gd=VM089

This DVD is all about him.

About SPIKE rubber, completely we developed for Wang Xi and Shiono.
He is using it from 2 month ago and still using for tournament.
After release, please check this rubber ;-)

Thank you and Best regards,

Looking forward to see that validated in a video...

Thanks Pipsy as always.
About the rubber i think he probably uses it, japanese are serious about those things and we already saw he's not one afraid of changing and adapting ;)
I'm more interested in the DVD than the rubber: is that only in japanese or are there english subtitles? Or maybe do they plan to make one with them? I'd love to have it but i couldn't understand a word in japanese (maybe just something like "cuttomanno" or "backando" :D )

Nice find, thanks Pipsy! You're right, our interview pretty much covered that... and a lot more. ;)

Pipsy,

Thanks for providing us with this interview. Even though most of Shiono's comments were familiar, from our interview, it was great to see and hear him speaking.

Steven

Wow, I missed this before, thank you Pipsy

He is most likely using the Spike P2, which has a very soft sponge like the Curl P-4
