Wow, is that the best advertising Butterfly can manage? Our local pizza place produces more convincing ads than that!

Today I was accused by ITTF President Adham Sharara of having "a hysterical reaction" and being "ill informed and not seeking to be informed, instead venting out of control," in regard to my comments on the July 1, 2013 ITTF ban on celluloid table tennis balls.

While Sharara may not have necessarily supported my point of view, it's a testament to this great forum that voices speaking out against the long string of ITTF rule changes that increasingly disadvantage defensive players are reaching the highest levels of the sport.

OOAK really is a special place and it's an honor for me to be a part of it.

Surely, he must have informed you by giving you a link to "The Worldwide Ban on Celluloid"? ;)

Yes that's quite the statement coming from the man who says...

1) There is a looming "worldwide ban on celluloid"
2) That "celluloid based sheets are a health hazard (same as asbestos)"
3) That the bigger ball is to "give a chance to defensive players to overcome offensive players."
4) That the new ball "does not affect the players."
5) That if we don't change now "we will have a ping-pong ball shortage and the prices will sky-rocket."

Liu Song was the only Team Joola member to get a win against the Chinese Super Leaguers.

Here is that match:

What is worrying me is the psychology behind his reaction. He doesn't try to win you over, or ignore you, or deceive you, as politicians would do who are controlling themselves, but he is openly showing anger because his authority is being challenged. He has done that several times on the forum already. It suggests a growing lack of self-control as well as a growing lack of relating to reality.

Kees, have you read what Adham Sharara actually said, in its proper context, rather than just the bit the mnnb has chosen? If you read the whole piece as I posted it here: ITTF: Celluloid balls to be banned on July 1, 2013 , and still want to argue that Sharara is "openly showing anger" then fair enough.

Tassie, I am not referring to ITTF policy or the way it is officially presented, but to personal remarks mr. Sharara made to members here who (none too gentle or subtle, by the way) opposed his views. Remarks like "OK, you know best" and the like. Coming from a president of the ITTF to members, in a public discussion, they seem to me to indicate a lack of self-control that I find worrying - for him. I wouldn't like to have someone who is going to mentally resemble Sepp Blatter to preside over our Federation.

I can remember Adham sniping at one of our members that they are "free to use speed glue, sniff it, and even eat it" outside ITTF events. :o :o :o

The ITTF is already done for the year as far as tournaments go. Next up is the Hungarian Open on January 17-21, 2012.
