17 year old chopper paying next in the next semifinal. He supposed to be good and is getting a lot of upsets. He's playing Keinath.

The men's semis are pretty interesting...

Wang Qing Liang vs. Thomas Keinath
Filip Szymanski vs Eugene Wang Zhen

Keinath plays Chtchetinine all the time in the Challenger Series so he should handle this kid.

The women's finalists are both penholders...

Liu Juan vs. Wang Huijing

50+ year old Dan Seemiller won the O40

60+ year old Xin Peng (a former Chinese National Team member) won the open hardbat and O50. Xin beat Seemiller in the O50, and Adoni Maropis in the hardbat.

Perhaps you've mentioned that earlier, but what sp do you use in ox? And what lp? I know people gets frustrated and tired of playing against a setup like that. One of my friends used double Long A 1,0 mm for a while and even players far beyond his level lost sets (sometimes matches) to him because of thet. But he is a hitter that can't read spin very well. And he lost many pips when playing that aggressive with lp (even though it was Long A). He now uses Yasaka Pryde 30 on FH and Long A 1,0 on a Stiga Clipper.

I have been using 729 Dr. Evil (black) on the forehand, Dr. Neubauer Desperado on the backhand on a Nittaku Shake Defense. I'm mainly a push/blocker type and will attack with the forehand. I've also been working on twiddling to attack with the backhand. Although I had been happy with Dr. Evil, I did a robot test comparing Dr. Evil to Dr. Neubauer Terminator and Terminator was significantly better in most categories, so I've switched to that now on the forehand. Will see how that works out but it looks promising.

My frind who is hitting with Long A ox is having some problems with loosing pips, I think perhaps Dr Evil would be a good alternative. How is spin reversal with that compared to a ordinary lp? How is attackking with it?

Is there any films from the chopper? BTW: Filip did finnish last season for Swedish Warta (best team in my home town), don't know if he will be back in September. Keinath is ready for a Swedish team (don't remember which one), and will play here next season.

Dr. Evil doesn't have any significant spin reversal, but it's durable, really high control, great for smashing and really good for serve returns.

I've haven't broken any pips yet, but I have broken quite a few balls with it.

(The Terminator has a bit of reversal, plus a really flat trajectory.)

I imagine there will be something on YouTube before long. The kid's name is Wang Qing Liang. He's a very good modern defender-type, but his chops were kind of high and Keinath took him to school.

Szymanski almost beat Wang Zhen. After losing the first three games, he ended up losing 11-9 in the seventh.

Looks like in 2014, for the third time in five years, the U.S. Open will be back in "Nowhere, USA," also known as Grand Rapids, Michigan. If only they had a bigger, less spinny ball. Then maybe they would have had the seats more than 1/3 full for the final. :|

Of course, if this were a ITTF event it would be one of the biggest crowds of the year.

TABLE TENNIS MEMORABILIA PRICES

How cool would it be to own the actual table used in the finals of the 2012 US Open?

Sometimes sports memorabilia can fetch big bucks. On Wednesday night, Table 1, the "showcourt" table complete with all the custom graphics on the undercarriage, was auctioned off on eBay. This is a $2000 table, practically brand new, used for historical national championship matches by famous players. What do you think it ended up selling for?

565 measly dollars. :o

I think they should try to spread it around. Put it in the west one year, then put it in the east the next year, then the midwest the next year, etc. It would also help to put it in a place big enough where a player has a chance to get a direct flight in and out. I know the guy in Grand Rapids does a great job organizing it, but five years in a row in the same area (three in Grand Rapids and the other two years are in Milwaukee, just 128 miles away by ferry) is too much midwest.

How rediculous! THat's a huge bargain even if it was just the table.

USATT LOOKING FOR A TT WIMBLEDON?

The USATT seems to have a long history of saturating markets with the U.S. Open. Why do they do this? All I can figure out is tennis has a permanent venue for their U.S. Open and it looks like the USATT wants the same for table tennis. Personally, I think golf's U.S. Open system where they rotate the location would be better for our sport since table tennis don't have iconic TT-only venues and we simply rent out big convention halls.

I wonder if they would sell me table 2 for $465?

MNNB do you know if Xin Peng is the guy who's name used to be written as Li Peng (Chinese Team Member in 1975). If it isn't him do you know what year he was in the Chinese team? The ITTF stats have no record of a Xin Peng. My bet is that it is Li Peng though. Thx in advance.

Here's a recent article about him: http://chronicle.augusta.com/sports/oth ... ble-tennis

Pretty amazing that this 60-something guy is the U.S. Open hardbat champion. I guess he can really play.

Thx for that. Those ex-Chinese team members are sometime else. Lu Chiwei has been living quietly in Brisbane since 1993, switched grips and almost won the world O50s.
