Good to see things getting back to normal with the ITTF China Open qualifying on itTV after the IOC reign of terror in surpressing video coverage of table tennis. Bad to see the U.S. men continue to fumble and bumble on the world stage. The USA's only representative, Wally Green, went down 0-4, 0-4 in two matches.

As usual, the American girls had more success than the men. Jiaqi Zheng won both matches 4-0 and 4-1. Wu Yue split two matches, winning 4-3 and losing 1-4.

Boll and Ovtcharov are competing, but all the Chinese Olympians are not. However, with Xu Xin, Ma Lin and Wang Liqin it's not much of a drop off to the China B team.

The most interesting players on the women's side seem to be Fan Ying and Shen Yanfei.

=======================

There is some speculation that Spinlord Blitzschlag could be released soon by ttdd.de.

Jiaqi Zheng and Wu Yue both won their preliminary matches on day 2 to win their groups in the China Open, while Wally Green lost his third straight match 0-4. Zheng and Wu will both play no-name Koreans in round one. If they win, Zheng would likely face Shan Yanfei and Wu would meet Li Xiaodan.

ORIGIN OF LAME?

Table tennis and fundraising are usually a lost cause, but this nutty idea raised $10,390 on the website kickstarter.com. The text tells potential investors, "Think of table tennis being the traditional, formal English parlor game, ping pong being the more contemporary American version and Uberpong being the future of the sport."

The company is called "Origin of Cool." Think these are cool paddles? I doubt the ITTF does. lol

Wally Green is in my opinion the best Amature US player we have. Why, he plays at a respectable level for an amature, enjoys the game, and LIVES his dreams of traveling to Asia for big tourneys as a TT player and after TT as an international player on the social scene. Besides myself, I have seen NO ONE enjoy TT as much. Maybe Joel Roberts (officially 2200+, but more like 2400+) lives his dreams more, but no one can compare to Wally Green who has all he wants, besides maybe another 200-300 USATT rating points of level. Big Deal, dude knows how to enjoy his TT life and can bring it, but just not against the pros.

It's great that Green enjoys table tennis but he isn't even top 100 in the weak USA. Our top players should be over there trying to compete and get closer to world class.

Well both American girls are out in the first round. Jiaqi Zheng lost to Jeon Jihee 2-4, but Wu Yue came close to beating Yang Haeun, dropping a nail-biter 16-14 in the seventh!

There's an interesting men's matchup between Samsonov and Persson on itTV coming up shortly. Also Chen Weixing's match will be streamed.

Wasn't there a post herejust a few hours ago from I think TTTT querrying who the "no name Koreans" were and what their world rankings were which suggested they weren't "no names" and also including a link to an article on the Daily Telegraph website - a UK national broadheet paper - about how one of their reporters found the table tennis at the olympics to be the best spectator sport he'd seen.

I don't agree about table tennis being the best spectator sport when it's at a venue the size of the Excel Centre but the report, I found, gave an interesting alternative view to my own. This is the link to the article. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tomch ... atriotism/

Thank you for the update Tassie52. However that thread only includes the link to the blog, not the part about the Korean rankings.

However, as MNNB has said "The original posts in this thread are under review by the Mod Team." I'll respect that request and await with interest the outcome of the moderator deliberations, although I'm surprised judging by the post I read by TTTT that that post even got considered as necessary of moderator consideration.

I don't mind someone challenging my contention that the names of Jeon Jihee and Yang Haeun are not recognizable to average table tennis fans, but the post Debater is referencing was not a friendly post and I didn't have the time nor patience at that moment to deal with a poster who is generally hostile toward me and wasn't interested in any meaningful dialog. Therefore that post and another referencing it were removed at my discretion as a blogger per the rules of the blog section.

Tabletennis11.com has some great prices. I've been looking at this super cheap XIOM Hayabusa ZXi blade that sells for €117,56 on Contra.de.

The only problem is I have to order 500 of them to get past the €50 threshold for free shipping. :^)
