I remember Dimitri Ovtcharov tested positive for "performance enhancing drugs", though he claimed it got into his system through tainted beef. I cant remember any other instances recently though.

Sir PP, if it is the clenbuterol case then Dima has been proven innocent.
Clenbuterol has been found in his bloodstream but most possibly by the means of bad food.
On the other hand, by some source I read clenbuterol is often used by bodybuilders to juice their muscles with decreased reflex and many other bad stuffs for table tennis being the negative side effect.

I didn't say he wasn't proven innocent or that he was proven guilty. That is what he was charged with and that was his defense. Clenbuterol produces lean muscle. It does not bulk you like steroids nor does it have the same harmful side effects. That is why it is often used on cattle to produce leaner meats. Thus the reason that the argument of "tainted beef" is perfectly plausible.

MORE RESULTS

2012 Final World Olympic Qualification Tournament, Doha, Qatar

New Zealander Li Chunli was disqualified for some reason, probably to the delight of the Kiwi Olympic Committee.

43-year-old female chopper Elena Timina won her match, but was eliminated on a tie-breaker.

Choppers Joanna Parker and Ana-Maria Erdelji advanced, but must play each other in the first round of the main draw, so one will be out. Gana Gaponova also advanced.

Male chopper Sas Lasan lost 4-0, unofficially I think he will advance through a tie-breaker, but we have to wait to see for sure.

American Wheaties box boy Michael Landers lost again (0-3 for this tournament). The other American Barney Reed withdrew.

All results: Men | Women

Has it been determined how many players will advance to the Olympics from this tournament?

WANT TO BE THE HIGHEST USATT-RATED PLAYER IN YOUR STATE?

There are a number of states where you could be the top rated player at a pretty low level. The secret is to relocate to these states. The downside is you actually have to spend time in these states. :puke:

The best active player in Wyoming is rated 673.
The best active player in North Dakota is rated 1083.
The best active player in South Dakota is rated 1467.
The best active player in Idaho is rated 1648.
The best active player in Maine is rated 1779.
The best active player in Montana is rated 1795.

The criteria for this list is any player to have played in any USATT event in 2011 or 2012.

MENS AND WOMEN'S DRAW

Sas Lasan plays short pipper Wang Zeng Yi in the first round of the main draw. That's probably curtains for Lasan.

Ana-Maria Erdelji finished Joanna Parker 4-2, so as far as I know Erdelji's the only female chopper left. That's because Gana Gaponova lost 4-0 to Petra Lovas.

THE SCOOP ON JOO'S "DERMATOLOGICAL PROBLEMS"

Turns out Joo has been diagnosed with cellulitis. Swollen feet, deep pain, no training in a month. Participation in the upcoming Korea Open is still uncertain. They're worried about whether he can play in the Olympics.

OLYMPIC QUALIFEIRS

Most of the Olympic spots have already been determined at the Final World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Doha, Qatar.

MEN (8-10 spots)
Tiago Apolonia
Mihai Bobocica
Wang Zeng Yi
Andrej Gacina
Allan Bentsen
Oleksandr Didukh
Bora Vang
Carlos Machado

WOMEN (6-8 spots)
Galia Dvorak
Sara Ramirez
Matilda Ekholm
Dana Hadacova

The rest of the spots will be determined on Sunday. All players must be ratified by their national commissions, which should be a formality unless you live in New Zealand.

ASIANS PUNISH EUROS

Bojan Tokic's 3-1 win over Hao Shuai was the only win for the Euro team in the 2012 Asia-Euro All Star Series.

In other matches Jun Mizutani whipped faded Vladimir Samsonov 3-1, Chuang Chih Yuan beat up on Dimitrij Ovtcharov 3-0, Leung Chu Yan punished Adrian Crisan 3-1 and Gao Ning hammered Alexei Smirnov 3-1.

Day 2 matches are:

Gao Ning vs Adrian Crisan
Leung Chu Yan vs Bojan Tokic
Chuang Chih Yuan vs Vladimir Samsonov
Jun Mizutani vs Dimitrij Ovtcharov
Hao Shuai vs Alexei Smirnov

Europe must sweep all matches to win. Not likely. Does anyone even care?

ASIA 3, EUROPE 2

Gao Ning beat Adrian Crisan 3-2
Bojan Tokic beat Leung Chu Yan 3-2
Chuang Chih Yuan beat Vladimir Samsonov 3-0
Dimitrij Ovtcharov beat Jun Mizutani 3-0
Hao Shuai beat Alexei Smirnov 3-0

I don't know how Vladimir Samsonov, who at 36 seems to be slipping fairly rapidly, is still ranked ITTF #13, while Bojan Tokic is ITTF #33. I would rate Tokic as the third best Euro player behind Boll and Ovtcharov. The ITTF rates nine Euro players ahead of him. Don't think so.

A FEW MORE OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

After the last day of the Final World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Doha, Qatar, it looks like practically everyone qualifying from this event was from Europe.

The breakdown looks like this:

MEN (8-10 spots)
Tiago Apolonia (Portugal)
Mihai Bobocica (Italy)
Wang Zeng Yi (Poland)
Andrej Gacina (Croatia)
Allan Bentsen (Denmark)
Oleksandr Didukh (Ukraine)
Bora Vang (Turkey)
Carlos Machado (Spain)
Matiss Burgis (Latvia)
Yaroslav Zhmundenko (Ukraine)

WOMEN (6-8 spots)
Galia Dvorak (Spain)
Sara Ramirez (Spain)
Matilda Ekholm (Sweden)
Dana Hadacova (Czech Republic)
Yana Noskova (Russia)
Anna Tikhomirova (Russia)
Lee Ho Ching (Hong Kong)
Huang Mendes (Portugal)

JOO STILL REGISTERED FOR KOREA OPEN

As of now Joo Sae Hyuk is still registered to play in the Korea Open starting Wednesday. The whole Chinese men's contingent is coming in for this one, including Ma Long, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao, Xu Xin, Ma Lin and Fang Bo. Six Euro players include Jorgen Persson, Mattias Karlsson and Ruwen Filus.

For the women there are four Euro girls (all from Germany), plus Kim Kyung Ah going for her third straight. Most the top Chinese women will be there too, including Wu Yang, as well as the always entertaining Singaporean Wang Yuegu.

GUO YAN INJURY?

The ITTF reported that Ding Ning will replace Guo Yan in the Olympics because Guo Yan is injured. Apparently Guo Yan's not injured too bad since she's scheduled to play in the Korea Open this week. It would be hilarious if this "injured" player wins the tournament.

Hmmm... You can look it at the bright side: if he plays in the Olympics, he'll be as fresh as a daisy and as eager as an eagle and modern defenders know how important that is.

GAO YAN'S FAKE INJURY

The supposedly injured Guo Yan is the number two seed in the Korean Open. This "injury" which led to the Chinese team replacing her in the Olympics with Ding Ning (who is now #1) is not passing the smell test.

Maybe the Germans should announce that Kristin Silbereisen is "injured" so they can can get Irene Ivancan in there.

This is the problem with qualifying players over a year in advance.
