he would sound much more believable if he had not added this last marketing bit.

He also says he gets them selected for weight, which is not tuning, of course. These statements are in agreement, thus.

Since North America is the home of ITTF President Adham Sharara, he should personally go to both Greenland and Bermuda and slap down the heads of those associations, which shamefully didn't send teams.

* * *

There is also supposed to be a 2012 ITTF Oceania Cup and Championships starting Sunday in Suva, Fiji. No details available, but if the commercial below is to be believed, Timo Boll, Vladi Samsonov and Chen Weixing are playing. :o

In reality this event should be open to 24 countries that make up the ITTF's Oceania Continental Association. I wonder how many of these alleged associations will actually send teams?

NEW ADHAM INTERVIEW

These are getting rarer and rarer. The interviewer here is described as an "old friend," so no hard questions or even follow-up questions here. Some pretty good comedy though. For example:

Q: During your tenure, there were several introductions of new rules. How do you see them?

A: Introduction of new rules is not a simple matter. However, if these new rules can indeed promote the development of the sport to make it more attractive to younger people, we will be happy to discuss these rules. :puke: :puke: :puke:

Q: The London Olympics for the first time limited the number of participants for each NOC in the Singles event. Is this implemented to suppress the dominance of the Chinese Team? What do you think?

A: Restricitng the Chinese Team is not the goal. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Stimulating players from other countries to challenge themselves and to challenge the Chinese Team is the whole purpose. The Chinese Team has the best three players but can only send two players for the Singles. It may seem unfortunate but it gives opportunities for other athletes to compete for the medals which is the best motivating factor. If they (China) will get the gold, at least there is still the silver or the bronze.

Q: The Singles will come first before the Team event in the London Olympics. To what do you consider that for?

A: First of all, the Singles players will also be in the Team event. We will have these players to have their baptism in the Singles so they will be able to play better in the Team. :o :o :o :o :o

Secondly, the Team competition will help extend the attention from different audiences. If successful, this reform will be applied to future Olympic Games. However if not, then the London Olympics will be the last.

Q: China Open just ended and it became another domestic competition between Chinese players. How do you think you can break the dominance of the Chinese Team?

A: Europe has a lot of good young players. I believe, four or five years after, they will be able to compete with the Chinese Team. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

You can see now that there are some South Korean players who won some matches. This is a good trend. However, the Chinese Team will still be powerful. I just want to see the contending situation and allow more and more countries to fell in love with the sport.

That Gorilla looks like it has more of everything, control, deception, and some spin. Or perhaps it just looks better in the hands of a skillful player.

Gorilla does not look to be a rubber to hit winners with, but I guess that's not what one would expect from an anti anyway. For setting up an attack and for solid defense it looks to be just what the doctor ordered.

I tried some antispin rubber before (can't recall which one it was) and hated it, but that video makes me want to try again.

Actually Gorilla is extremely fast and uncontrollable. That player and his son are like the only two people on Earth that play well with it. The blade is Yinhe Speer with Gorilla .6mm and TSP Angrit 2.0. I am in awe.

MISCELLANEOUS BLATHER

Looks like the Swedish table tennis association is going to bat for Matilda Ekholm. Adham told us today that may be a court injunction next week. Adham also informed us that the teams are set, so if Ekholm is bumped, the ITTF will bypass the 9th and 10th place finishers from the final tournament in Doha (since those countries already have two players qualified) and the spot will go to Ukrainian Tetyana Bilenko.
* * *
Too bad the pathetic New Zealand Table Tennis Association didn't show the same support for the two NZ players who were forced to forfeit their Olympic dreams.
* * *
The USATT will be offering a live stream of the North American Cup on Saturday and Sunday. I'm not familiar with a lot of the Canadian players, but of all the players listed Chris Xu is the most interesting.
* * *
Any chance of a live stream for the Oceania tournament in Fiji? Does Fiji even have Internet?
* * *
If the ITTF stacks the draw with both Chinese players in the same half of the draw, it will insure that the silver goes to another country.
* * *
After Ma Lin and Wang Hao went out the Round of 16 in the China Open, we now have the excuses. Wang says he had an upset stomach, Ma Lin said he wasn't very excited after being bypassed for the Olympics.
* * *
How come Feng Tianwei always hangs around the top ten despite being upset by lower ranked players practically every tournament?
* * *
Looks like Wang Zhen managed to get his Canadian passport, but only in time to be the third wheel for the team event.
* * *
One of the Tripartite Commission Olympic invites will likely go to Aya Majdi of Qatar.
* * *
Facebook users can support Matilda Ekholm at https://www.facebook.com/events/210557445732064/?ref=ts

Where is Li Chunli's support page?
* * *
The screen capture below is from the ITTF Facebook page. Take a look at the second pic from the top in the right column. I think the ITTF may have found the missing ingredient to making table tennis popular.

Doesn't Amy play the Gorilla, or at least did recently? Then she's the third on Mother Earth.

About Matilda Ekholm: it is the Swedish Olympic Comitee that stops Matilda from participating in the Olympics. The Swedish TT Association would love to have her in the Olympics but they are depending on funds from the Olympic Comitee, they can therefore not say too much about the situation.

There are a lot of discussions in Sweden about who is allowed to participate and who are not. Many are very angry, since many who managed to qualify according to international qualification rules and limits are not allowed to go. The Swedish Olympic Comitee has some rules of their own: "you should be able to compete for a top 8 spot in the Olympics". And they are of course deciding who they think are able to do that. Therefore - Matilda is not going while Jörgen P is. Like I said - a lot of people are very irritaded. Most of the TT community in Sweden fights for Matilda. Probably in vain...

NA CUP WEB STREAM

For people suffering withdrawal symptoms from lack of live streaming this week, here is the remedy: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Table-Tennis ... tream.aspx

Multi-camera, way better quality than ITTF streams.

Sad story. Especially since they've done it to her twice.

You're right. Amy did use it, but now she uses Grizzly with ABS sponge.

ASTONISHING VIDEO QUALITY FROM THAT ERA

From 1987. Great chopper.

Here's another vid from the 1980s that was recently posted. Looks about the same quality as the current ITTF web streams. :lol:
