Last week I tested Gorilla in two sessions and one competition (only two matches). It was difficult, somewhat frustrating and very inspiring. It is a little too grippy at low speed and impact. If I should block a fast FH loop it worked ok, I made several nice flat blocks that were very dead when a far better player than me looped. When I faced a young player at about my own ranking I had several problems. One was that blocks went to the net or long. I think I need to add some speed myself when blocking or the spin will bite the rubber and ball rises and go long. I also think my sheet of the Gorilla is more grippy than it should. I ordered a new sheet, this time I will try the 1,2 mm ABS-sponge.

Until I have my new Gorilla I will revisit my 1,5 mm Power Attack. That is less grippy than my Gorilla, slightly slower on low impact but when the dense sponge is activated it has a lot of speed. When I tried it more than anyear ago I felt it had too little back spin on blocks, slightly less than Mega Block. It was not enough to build a game plan around. And attacking was easy on back spin but not on drives or low spin loops. Now the situation is different and the new ball has less spin, meaning that there will be a higher percentage of returns that I can attack with this rubber, since most loops are not that spinny. I think this might be a great rubber for me now. Tomorrow is my next session

as far as i can see, sriram is blocking all no spin balls almost like with an inverted...even attacking them...

only when the fast very spinny ball come, he does the upward block motion so the ball come with heavy underspin...

I agree! It takes a very delicate touch and good reading of incomming spin to perform those shots consistent. And that comes with many hours of practice.

heppy to see that you start to master the rubber. I will be happy to see it in video. That would be great !

Tonight I had a short session (my partner got injured) with Neubauer Power Attack 1,5 mm on BH on a Stiga Carbonado 190 blade and Stiga Perform ball (ABS). I have to say it worked great! I could quite easily counter normal drive strokes and the return sank and had slight back spin but I could do it with ok control once I figured out how hard I should hit.

Atacking back spin was the only part where I found the Gorilla better but PA is good enough. Blocking loops is doable but may need some adjustment and speed dampening with a loos grip of the bat compared to Bison. After a few minutes I felt ok with consitency in blocks also. I never tried returning serves or any match-like playing, that will have to wait (until next week I guess).

But for now I am very satisfied with Powe Attack, it feels like I can do most of the things I could do with Bison and also attack a lot better. It feels great!

Sounds a bit like Django, a comparison would be interesting. I don't get any reversal with Django, sends back mostly dead balls when blocking. But very good for more aggressive play.

Probably correct, having checked the website I see that Neubauer rates Django slightly slower and doesn’t describe it as frictionless unlike Power Attack.

I haven’t been able to practice since last week, and I have a league game comming up tomorrow (and I have a cold...). But I had a short session with the robot yesterday. I needed to test my new red Neubauer Power Attack (I used a black before). I tried to use ABS-balls but that worked only for one round of 80 balls, then it started to jam all the time. Instead I used yellow old celluloid balls. I could tell there is a big difference in spin and bounce, much higher bounce with ABS and far more spin with cell. But I managed to practice some attacking and some blocking. here is a very short clip with some attacks with ABS ball against top spin. With the right bat angle you can attack slight top spin with this rubber, generating rather nasty shots:

Thanks. I rarely film at competitions or league matches. But if I do I will put it here.

In January (20th) I will participate in Swedish veterans championships held in my home town. I will enter 45 years and above. There we have players like Classe Wahlgren (very good LP pushblocker) and Wang Qing, a defender who used to play in our highest league. There are also some really good ”normal” players, like Mats Källberg (uncle to Anton and Christina Källberg) who usually makes it to at least 1/8 in world veteran champs. I hope I will be able to practice a lot until then. And maybe catch some good matches with my phone .

How do you feel about the speed of the Dr N Power Attack on the Carbonado 190? Although reversal may be good, it appears a tad fast for executing nasty short blocks?

True, short blocks is not an option unless against slow attacks.
