QF match in Handicap event. Was horrified once again how badly I look on video :headbang: (as far as TT is concerned): very upright, poor shot selection, ugly strokes, barely moving, and very illegal-looking serves to boot (toss is not vertical at all). The last is not intentional, and the rest is not that surprising either.

But man, so many mistakes...

Wow, looked like you were trying with the bh to bump back everything long. That opponent liked that.

Your BH play was impressive for the most time, everything was tight and you bumbed well to the FH corner. At last set you got series of BH mistakes, it seem you lost your rhytm there. Wide to BH you have problem in blocking and you lost control. Your chopping looked very nice, but when tempo got bit higher, you just didn'were fast enough. You might have bumbed more to to wide BH, because opponent was strong in the middle.

The main problem was FH. It is too inconsistent, if you count mistakes. And when it makes to table, it's too soft and that opponent scored many winner by countering harder your soft FH. So you could say that you would do better by not attacking anything from the FH. I had the same problem at our 2. division matches.

Compared to me you are missing strong "FH choppy push". It's toxic against many yougsters, as they play usually very good agaist soft top spin, like yours. Just put as much underspin from the FH as you can and see opponent to play it to the net. ;) When my FH is not working, choppy pushing saves the day many times.

Overall play seemed good to me and I surprised how tight your BH play is, although not always dangerous enough. The FH is just not good enough for the opponents of that caliber or higher.

Agree with Roy and I love your BH bumps mate. ;)

Hard to argue against that - FH does 'feel' better in practice these days, but it's very different scenario in match play. Playing with very slow setup probably does not help here too, at least as far as finishing the points (and to be honest I'd take higher landing % right now too). For further context, my opponent is 2100+, and that's a pretty big difference in skill, consistency etc.

Lots of experiments last night, just to goof around with several OX combos I had lying idle.

Barricade/Dornenglanz (very new)/Tibhar Genius - somewhat nastier LP blocks, FH quite a bit faster. Not that different from my main Barricade combo on BH.

Sword 309/Dornenglanz (well used)/T05 - much heavier than Barricade combo, very satisfying FH, BH seriously faster - most blocks hard to keep short, but lots of weirdness on the ball.

Defplay/Dtecs/Marder - very strange FH, did not like it at all. BH though - blocked and controlled like a charm. I think I'll stick AK47 on FH and see what it does next.

Defplay with AK47 did become much more pleasant on FH, but short experimentation/exploration period is over :) - back to Barricade and mostly trying to see how BH consistency and nastiness can be improved. One guy in the club pointed out that I tend to 'hit' with it, or perhaps the better way to describe it as 'passive stroke' - blade is there and ball bounces back, but I'm not doing much with it and it spends very little time interacting with pips. Hope it makes sense...

One other thing that is going on in parallel - trying to play in a very calm emotionless way. Getting angry does not work for me, I think, error rate goes up and I tend to go for stupid shot choices, mostly the ones that are too aggressive. Easier to keep ball on the table when you are not fuming on the inside.

Had a few good wins recently and several good (yes, lost, but played well, if it makes sense) losses too :).

Was watching a lot of this guy's videos on YouTube lately - pretty amazing LP skills.

He is just an amazing LP player. You can find lots of recent videos of him testing stuff on geblocktt

Very skilful player who makes any LP look very effective. He also displays very good playing skills with some newer classic anti rubbers in geblocktt's recent testing videos.

On defence blades the b/h can be perfect but the f/h can be way off especially if the defence blade has a large head or is flexible.
ive cut the majority of mine down and they play nice.the barricade has a large head so the f/h is bound to be off.

Yep, I'm a subscriber to his channel. Very wide range of strokes and his videos look 'real', i.e. it feels like he figured it out mostly by himself. I see plenty of time studying his shots in slo-mo in my future. :D

Cool, I'll clear my Saturday night (November 3rd) schedule then for an extended TT session.

P.S. What do you need my bats for? :)

I think this is a new 'subbed' video from a Korean pro player whose name escapes me (I'm sure I saw/posted her videos on some other thread, but can't find it now). Don't think I saw it with English subtitles before:
