Problem with the league you're playing in, Pipsy, is that one club can have multiple teams in one serie. And that is caused by the fact that there are a couple of clubs too large and the others too small. We don't have that here.

I'm glad it worked out in the end, but these kind of shenanigans is what I find a bit uncomfortable about team league format, at least from a distance (we don't have one here). Too many loopholes to manipulate in the ways you just described.

Yes, it's terrible. It crossed my mind quitting TT for a year or entering another league (further away).

Our local competition does not allow a player to play in more than one team in the same division. It is allowed for a club to have "utility players" if they have more than 1 team in a division, but the "utility player" is not allowed to be one of the top 10 in the division. Otherwise clubs can bring players up from a lower division team. New players through the season and at the beginning of the season are usually scrutinised for being a "ring in" except for the top division.

Doesn't your competition have something similar (except possibly for the "utility player" concept)? Does it enforce these rules? If I were you I would be either reading up the competition by-laws and trying to get them enforced, or trying to get some in place to cover such unfair actions.

There are some restrictions, but not enough... The big, large clubs are always advantaged and are also very present in the TT boards...

They could f.e. make it impossible by definition that the 'lower team' from the same club gets three points by winning a match. Of course, they can play but the higher team should always get the three points. But this also has a downside, f.e. what to do if both teams have all the same rankings?

Yes, I fully agree. My Province used to be the largest of the country with the biggest numbers of clubs and teams but then they split up the Flemish and the French-speaking part (as if language matters in sports!) of the Province and the League suddenly got quite small. And indeed, 4-5 clubs are HUGE and the other clubs are (too) small...

You're always welcome here. But that's a bit far, I guess.

That's a little far but thanks anyway ;)

No, I will stay here and I'm so glad we can play in the second division again next year.

Did you already get the new ranking? We just got them: I'm a C6 now, guess that would be around usatt 2150

My guess is that's going to be my new ranking as well. If it's not, I'll try to get it anyway.

Thx! ;) I'm going to be C2 in the other league I'm playing in and the difference between those two rakings is maximum 2 (C2 Sporta --> C6 VTTL).

We have 1 club - my old club - which puts 18 teams into our 5 divisions. The league's board has a few directors from this club but importantly there are key positions filled by people who aren't affiliated with it.

The way we avoid situations like this is by having a rule which states that players *can only play up*, and they can only do so *5 times*.

So, for example...

Cramlington team C. Premier Division. Players with grades 190, 200, 230
Cramlington team B. Premier Division. Players with grades 220, 240, 270
Cramlington team A. Premier Division. Players with grades 250, 290, 330

The players in team C can play for team B and team A. The players from team B can play for team A. The players in team A can't play for anyone but themselves.

If a player from team C plays for team A 5 times, they can't play once more else they will *join* that team. So if a player from C plays for A 6 times, they become a player for A and can't play for team C (or B).

There isn't much to stop a player with grade 330 registering for team C. However, once he has played 6 games for another team (e.g. presumably team A, the best team), he'll join them. This means that any disadvantages tend to be indicated *at the start of the season* and not the end.

Also, we use a transfer window idea similar to football. Players can only register for teams before the season and just after Christmas. If extenuating circumstances dictate that a team desperately needs to register a new player (illness/long-term injury etc.) then they can submit a request to the league's board. The league's directors then decide whether or not the request is legitimate.

So I played my first League match after 5 months of tennis-only (recreational and competition). I wasn't really prepared since I only played two short training sessions before that encounter. I got a higher ranking for this season and I still play in the second highest Provincial division. I missed the first three encounters and made my debut against one of the better teams of the division consisting of three C2-ranked players (~usa2250) and one C6 like myself. I should have won the latter match, but lost in the fifth set. Still, I was not unhappy about how I was playing, but improvement is definitely needed! :whew:

On one of the other tables, a nearly 10 year old kid was playing who has a C4-ranking (~2200)! It appeared that he is the son of Marc Closset, who used to be an international player and who was coaching his son. Here's a short video fragment of Marc Closset (the father):

I saw the match where the 10 year old defeated a 2250 player… amazing, I think we will hear more from him!

I wonder how he got that rating. He never played our league and he's not on the transfers list either.

Strange indeed. It seems to be the first time he plays in the Belgian league. He started at exactly 1500 ELO-points... Maybe he played in another country before? France maybe?

Then he should be on the transfers list. Or do you mean he played in another country, took a break and he started playing again in Belgium?

Small chance at the age of 10

I will ask the C6-player I lost against - I believe he is the club secretary and he also has a position in VTTL - and knows practically everything about tt in Belgium...

He said he'd contact me when Tomas Mikutis is competing in (against) Diest
