on my forehand I think I raise my shoulder on the stroke unnecessarily as well as elbow. I originally thought that since my elbow is pointed down it's fine and good but actually when watching other players' techniques the elbow very rarely goes above the shoulder. and the shoulder isn't raised up like doing a shrug
for me I think both my shoulder and elbow raise up too much. I re watched that sean o'neil video and I'm going to try to fix my stroke according to that video... although from that slow mo vid with the top Chinese guns, there does seem some exception to the rule as they have their whole arm/shoulder/elbow ripping through the ball, although it looks like it's forward going through the ball (power), not upwards like for me (injury)
was in the neighborhood and decided to get in a training session with Kokou
I've come to realize my forehand is really bad. for some reason i get stiff and my elbow becomes locked in position and although it points downward, i move the arm around a lot to compensate for my lack of proper footwork.
he glosses over a good point in my forehand stroke... i have always thought in my minds' eye as well as in execution it seems that weight transfer should be from right foot to left foot on the forehand, but actually, it's more like right foot, forward, then the left foot is used to re-balance... i've always thought of right to left and that shows in my stroke with a lack of power
out of the ten games we played i think he took 8 and i took 2. i really suck against dead balls, need more practice against it. at least there was an improvement, cause i think the last two games were the ones i took
this kid has a good forehand if it's put in a spot for him to take--lost the first game but then won 3-1 after realizing to avoid his forehand. also made a good comeback in the last game, down 10-6 to win it 10-12. his backhand serve was good in the beginning but i got used to it
