Last weekend, I heard Andre Scott (around 2000 rating playing from a wheelchair) shout two different times "I F***ing suck!" when he played against one of his partners from TWU. I wanted to shout back from accross the gym... "Not near as much as me , Andre!"

I think that within certain boundries, showing a little more emotion when we play will help table tennis, at least from the spectators point of view. Let's face it, table tennis isn't exactly on top of the ratings on tv. In other sports there are many athletes who attract attention through various scandals, exploits, or emotional outbursts. This often draws interest to the sport because people want to watch to see what they'll do next. I think the idea remaining calm and emotionless throughout the match being equated with acting "professional" ends up making table tennis seem even more boring to the average joe.

Ideally of course, people would watch table tennis because it's a great sport, but considering its gradual decline in popularity, I think we really need to work on its image. What do you guys think? Is there no such thing as bad publicity?

I think that showing some emotions is quite okay. As long as you don´t jump upon your opponent and yells at him or she.

So far, only 2 things make me slightly mad:

1) Extremely spinny services, i just say to myself: "If i can't return it, i smash it"...and it worked! at least you have the chance to win the point with a killer. Plus this will end once i understand more the spin effects...

2) Edges or tricky nets when i have the point almost won...and it doesn't happen very often.

But man, this game is too fun to get mad...i surprise myself smiling of joy while i play, how could i think of swearing an opponent, hitting a wall or the blade?

The only way i could hit the wall/floor, would be from getting an impossible ball back to the table. (losing balance completely).

Does anyone else find it really funny when your opponent starts raging?

Half the time I have to turn around to stop laughing at them...
