I just noted on the Gergely (SH) that I just bought that there is the serial number on the lower right hand side, mine reads : G001622JAFS.
However I don't see it on my other Butterfly blades like Kumpuru (SH), Taksim, Aeolus, Cypress (all sold), and Schlager Carbon C-pen.
Anybody knows why this serial number is there for Gergely ?

Its on all the new butterfly models.

Say you buy a gergely21 from a few years back. It wont have the serial number plus it would have the gold pin badge at the bottom.

The new gergely has the serial number plus the silver badge on the latest batch.

Personally I don't like the new stuff at all, Butterfly has made changes to quite a few of the models.

From my experience:

A.Mazunov OFF+: Newer model has harder wood and a smaller head.

Gergely21 FL: Wood is almost the same but the handle has been designed significantly smaller.

Primorac Carbon: Headsize and wood composition is the same but the handle is Huge compared to the old FL.

Sardius: Handle again has been thickened.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Blade: Trinity Carbon
FH: Victas VS > 401
BH: Dr N Troublemaker OX
I think others are following this trend too... I noticed most of the high end galaxy blades all have serial numbers too.

possibility of same factory?

Xiom blades look incredibly similar to Bty blades in terms of construction.

The serial number lettering is different to the galaxy stuff. Not sure if this means anything.

I don't think that the Xiom blades are from the same factory as bty, though I could be wrong. Xiom's Koto seems pretty different to Butterfly's koto.

LawOCG, you are always refering to Gergely 21 although I did not mention the "21". Since it seems Gergely 21 is always in your mind, this make me think that perhaps Gergely 21 is better than Gergely. Am I drawing the right conclusion ?
Regarding the serial number on the blade, I think it gives the sense of luxury or high quality, although it can be a commercial jargon only.

...at least you would know that your blade was just recently made and not from the shelf where it was stored for 10 years. Personally I don't mind the new blades I like the look of the new metal badge, and with the handles you can always sand them down if there too big

Mine still has the old type metal badge (black colour), not the new silverish colour. From what I read, people usually are of the opinion that blade produced earlier has better quality than the one recently made, maybe due to the lack of quality material ?
