I'd like to change my vote to a yes just to put more pressure on the ITTF, but that wouldn't be playing by the rules :(

It's possible they could get me on the flatness rule as the rubbers come away a little under where my thumb goes, but that would be seriously harsh as it couldn't possibly affect play due to it's position under my thumb.

My cousin applied his Acuda S2 on a blade with water based glue, and we even waited for the glue to tack dry completely. By the end of the night the Acuda sheet had shrunk back well over an 1/8th of an inch. All rubber is altered with the application of glue of any type VOC or not. The whole thing is crap and the ITTF is ran by a bunch of fools. Only to be exceeded by the USATT which is a good old boy system of fools with absolutely no vision whatsoever.

Technically they're all illegal.

The ITTF issued a document to the national associations to distribute to players saying specifically that players should "only clean your racket with water, do not use any other substances."

That rule does not make any sense at all:

1. Water will not cut through grease. Therefore you will fall foul of the rule about not altering the properties of the rubber, as it greases up and you fail to clean that grease off (thus deliberately allowing the properties to change).

2. No water is pure. Water in a heavy water plant of a nuclear facility is the closest you would get, but I don't think they would be keen on letting tt players dip their bats in it!

Not approved by ITTF as such, but the water-based version at least, is not technically against the rules as it keeps a rubbers condition, it doesn't change it.

The VOC version may break the rules on the VOC basis, although the VOCs disappear very quickly from it I think anyway.

Any version of Spinmax or any liquid other than water is illegal according to the ITTF.

Good luck enforcing that one Adham.

I wash my rubbers with Dawn dishwashing liquid every once in a while to keep down the oils....What a cheater I am, not allowing the oils to alter the playing characteristics of the rubber.

Wait.....

Technically, wouldn't we have to change rubbers after every game?

Thanks for the encouragement! :)

I've not been posting because I've pretty much packed up playing over the last two years. My local local league went from very strong to very weak in just two seasons, I got a little bored after 22 years of playing, then my British League team (I was training for one week before a match, then not picking up my bat till the next one months later) folded. Instead I've been doing Brazillian Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA – inspired by little bro, who is a seriously good MMA fighter/grappler (youtube Sam ...same surname as me! ...though there is a badly spelt video without the "u" too.).

After 10 months of never even holding my bat I've just started playing again, but only to feed for my 7 year old son (I've only played two games myself in the four sessions I have attended).

Anyway, back on topic, and slightly related to my blogging above...

Whenever I came to practice again after a few months of not playing I would notice that my Andro Roxon 500 & 450 rubbers had shrunk and exposed a few mm of wood. During the week's practice I'd get new one's for the BL match and they would be noticably more effective.

Does Roxon always shrink and die a bit over a few months (even when not being used)?
...Or is it because I am 'cheating' by drying the silly slow drying water based glue with a hair dryer (because I don't have all bloody day to waste wating for it!) putting tension in to the rubber with the extra water vapour and/or heat?

If the hair dryer is having some kind of an effect, I don't get why I could not see any signs of shrinking three daysish after gluing, when I played my BL match; only a few months later when I pulled my bat out to train up again for the next one.

I varnished my blade and now it got paint fume (VOC?). Check.
I am using speed glue because it is the cheapest in the market. Check.
I am not using speed glue for performance reason tho ;)

Yes I have :(
