Bought a pair of Asics Gel running shoes today for everyday ware, cost me $100 on special.

Played tabletennis tonight with them and was surprised how good they played.

Cushioning was like a 7 series BMW.

I know from previous experience, playing t/t with running shoes stability is the downfall.

These shoes however without the insole are not that high.

Measured width compared to my Adidas indoor, they are 3/4 cm wider across heel and mid-section.Swapping over every few games i found i played better with the new runners than my very old Adidas indoor shoe.

Grip was better, cushioning awesome, stability equal.Weight 320g with no insole compared to 360g for Adidas.

Perhaps when i break them in,the shoe will soften resulting in less stability.

Anyway, decided going to keep them for t/t,probably play worse than regular indoor shoes.

Acics running shoes, like any running shoes, are an utter FAIL for TT.

However, their cross trainers AND their volleyball shoes are OUTSTAAAAAAANDING for TT. I am in the 4rd month of use & abuse of some $39 Acics cross trainers and they look like they will live until spring.

Had a look on the Asics website, yes i bought a pair of the cross trainers not runners.

http://www.asics.com.au/footwear/cross- ... shoes.aspx

They are last years model, not on the website but they look identical.

Was wondering why they were so laterally stable,as with runners i generally lose my balance after the shot.

Going to try them first without, then with the insole.

cross trainers are pretty good however I have had the best luck with asics volleyball shoes. They work on all sorts of surfaces. I used them on concrete at the Joola National Teams competition in baltimore, Maryland USA. Everyone was slipping with regular table tennis shoes. We all had to put a wet towel at the foot of the table to wet our shoes between points.

The Asics GEL rocket line are awesome. I only had to wet my sneaker once or twice a set. No slippage and my feet did not really hurt at all after a 3 day competition where I played 28 matches.

The soles are great and you will find the high end butterfly shoes are made by Asics.
