Anyone know where we can watch 'live' matches online. I don't think the ITTF has the rights.

In the USA you can watch all the matches on http://www.nbcolympics.com, but you need to be registered with a USA cable or satellite provider to access it.

I read somewhere that they can be watched internationally on YouTube or on BBC. BBC would not work in us. I tried BBC with a proxy server with no luck. Did not try an international proxy for YouTube. Called my mom and got her cable password for the us Olympics app. :-)

Also, Swedish television was broadcasting Pär Gerells match and will also broadcast Jörgen Perssons match:

I don't know if matches will be available after broadcasting.

For live streams you need to find your provider based on location.

For Europe the Eurovision pages seem to be OK. A bit cumbersome interface, but fairly useable:
  • Go to the programme guide
    • Search for discipline=Table Tennis.
    • Make note of the channel number for the event you want to watch.
  • Back to the viewing page:
    • Scroll down to Playlists and select Live feeds
    • Scroll down to Playlist videos and select the channel number you noted.
    • Scroll back up to the viewing window
    • Mute the sound (otherwise that initial ad will eventually drive you nuts)
    • Grab a cup of coffee (or your chosen beverage) while the commercial runs.
    • Unmute and enjoy

Thanks keme!

Eurovision site seems blocked for AU... it says it's only for European countries. :( :( :(

What countries don't have access to the live matches or on-demand?

I guessed that it would be the case. Rights management and such... There is money involved. ;)
That's why I wrote that first line about finding a provider based on location (there is a link there).

I haven't tried them all, but I guess I am unable to open any sources targeting other regions. I did that Eurovision writeup because that seems to be the best of what is available to me (and because I found it less than intuitive, so perhaps others might find such a writeup useful).

I checked that link to swedish TV above, and that, being a national source, is unavailable to me even if physically it's closer than the Eurovision one. For many countries, the YouTube channel is listed as the only online source. That should be available globally, but probably with a limited selection (if any) of live transmissions.

So no one in Australia saw William Henzell's match?

They showed 2 seconds of Miao Miao's match last night on TV. Hopefully we'll see a bit more if Henzell progresses. Maybe even 5 seconds!

Did anyone (in Aus) try fox? They've got 8 channels running.

olympic channel on youtube only works for those who are in countries that dont have a broadcasting service, e.g some countries in asia and Africa. If your in Australia or the U.S or any other nation that has a broadcasting service, it wont work. I guess I'll have to wait until someone in the crowd records it with a camera and posts it on youtube :D
