I don't know about you guys, but at my level of play I mostly judge spin by sound.. Opponents strokes are just too fast to judge properly on the motion + what about times when they hit not in the middle of the racket but somewhere near the side/top? There's no way you can see that, but it makes lots of difference to the speed/spin on the ball. Sound helps very very much.
Also there is a player where I train who has hearing problems. Although he is using a device that helps him hear, but his hearing is still worse that other players. The result of this is that I can trick/deceive him with spin manipulation way more often that other players. And have in mind that he is actually a good player, even got 2nd place in world's deaf table tennis championship team's event this year (
