Hi to all,

My Name is Barbaros Gecer and I live in Istanbul. I have begun to play 1 year ago because there was an interruption of more than 25 years. I played more than 10 years when I was young. Table Tennis changed very much due to the kind of playing when I was a child. Faster and more powerfull. The choice of so much different ruubers and blades iritate me very much. because of that I joined to this forum to get good hints for me.

Thanks all

Hi Barbaros Gecer, my name is Dima I live in Almaty Kazakhstan. I played table tennis like you about 10 years in youth then was long break and now I have been training for 4 years again. I had the same problems , tried many rubbers and blades. My style - attacking , strong top spins fH and BH. Please depict your play style and what kind of blade feeling you prefer - soft ,medium or hard. I will be glad to help in rubbers and blade selection which I have already tried. Also I have one question to you. Is there in Istanbul Butterfly official
table tennis shop ? Pls give me it address , I searched in the net but found nothing.

Welcome, Istanbul! If you have any questions or concerns you've come to the right place. Table tennis can be a complicated game with so many things to consider. If you go slow and ask the right questions, it doesn't have to be too complicated.

If you're not 100% sure of how you want to play, then make sure you don't go out and buy the most expensive offensive gear. Stick to a good budget - there are many, many good options that don't cost very much. I always reckon that a player coming into this modern form of the game should focus on control and feeling. So, start with a blade and rubbers that are not too fast. When buying your first custom blade go for one that is rated ALL (all-round). Even if you like to attack and be aggressive this won't be a setback. There is no point using a bat that is too fast, until you develop good strokes and technique.

BTW, I love Turkish food, culture and people!

I think you're underestimating my eating ability. When the banquet arrives I just say, 'Bring it on!' :P
