One of these 4 serves is substantially better than the rest. Which one is it, and why?

It's a good think to be addicted to. I'm addicted to Chocolate and that's becoming a real problem.

It is a bit too obvious that the backhand serve involves major torso/hip rotation while the others are far less violent. You feel a gold on the backhand serve and no fold on any of the forehand serves.

It's obvious to you NL, but maybe not everyone. I suspect that it takes a certain level of understanding to see what you easily saw.

Lol Russ, I didn't say anything was "bad". Your backhand serve is close to perfect.

Here's the quick answers before FLL.
- On the backspin serve, you should have you left leg forward and fold all your weight/stamp onto that. Both of youe legs are currently bending together and that doesn't help you to fold forward/down.
- You need better rotation on both of your Pendulum serves. Bring your right hip around as you fold down.

Useful serve montage in slomo.

Thanks FruitLoop.

Some of this fits in with my advice to Russ. A straight backspin serve is just a fold onto the front foot. A side/backspin serve is a fold onto the front foot and hip rotate combined.

Why does one want to fold forward into the ball into these serves? To add more speed to the serve? More spin? Recovery?

Racket head speed/acceleration can be converted into spin or speed, it all depends on your contact and timing. So getting more racket head speed with more control is always a good thing. The large body muscles let you do that. You are doing the right things, it is just a level of quality and violence.

Because you are hitting the ball down towards the ground. The fact that the table gets in the way and deflects the ball doesn't change the facts. If you are hitting the ball towards the ground, your shoulder joint must be heading towards the ground. It's the folding torso that houses the shoulder joint.

I'm in the process of making LTT115. It's called "Traditional Tomahawk".

LTT115 is an attempt to teach the basic mechanics of the serve that is prone to misnomers. I'm making this post to put public pressure on myself to get it over the line. I want it done approx 12 hours after clicking the submit button here.

LTT111 is still on hold. I will get it done when I'm 600% sure that NextLevel has Conquered Haste.
