1) Taking a cue from golf again, teams of golf players travel all over the world on golfing tours to play in different courses. Why don't TT players do TT tours and travel to foreign cities to play competitive matches at club level? In that way, ratings can be compared and then revised.

Actually, they do. It's called the World Tour.. However, it doesn't help us non-International level players much.

Because wrong market/player base.

Golfing, cycling, skiing do this because the average golfer/cyclist/etc has a lot more disposable income than the average tt player.

Plus, golfing, cycling, skiing have better scenery.

interesting update to this:
Khoa Nguyen recently played in the Australia veterans championships. He ended up with a Ratings Central rating of 2035, after playing +- 35 matches.
His USATT rating is 2511.
Therefore, the difference in this case is 476 - with a top player, with numerous matches under his belt.
My previous guesstimate of 450 difference may be quite accurate!

I had a good chuckle over this one... Just remembering what the inside of the club at the Dearborn Hotel in Indianapolis used to look like... Especially that back room with the sofa and the TV..
