QUITE interesting. I didn't know it was illegal to start the ball projection from below the table as long as you released the ball above the table and hit it above the table.

Those hidden serves - quite common in the old days. Most were even worse!

That vertical rule is nonsense. Show me a pro who tosses it straight up.

I thought there were limits to how much they'd allow the throw to deviate from the vertical. You can supposedly generate extra spin by throwing the ball towards the bat.
