For the first time, we have a table tennis Olympian from the Philippines
Yan Lariba is going to Rio

I think this shows that Pingpong is growing in my country.
This girl just graduated from college and still shows a lot more potential.

She once visited our club in the office and we got to play a few hits with her.
She was very down to earth and gave the beginners a few pingpong tips. Cool girl

You've actually just reminded me I never posted that my clubmate, Heming Hu, is also going to Rio to play TT for Australia.

Heming is a lovely young (22 year old) guy who has been working very hard on TT ever since I've known him (about 8 years now). His dream has been to play TT in the Olympics. He missed out in 2012, but now he has matured some more and William Henzell (or Robert Frank, an ex Dandenong club member) is not playing, he gets his chance, along with David Powell who practices with Heming a lot at my club.

*** UPDATE ***

Yan Lariba has been chosen to be flag bearer for the Philippines in the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics.

It just keeps getting better

A quote from her: “Qualifying for the Olympics is already a great honor. But it is even a greater honor to be the country’s flag-bearer in the opening ceremony,” Lariba told the BusinessMirror.
“It’s very fulfilling not only for me but also for the table-tennis community in the Philippines. At least table-tennis will get its due recognition and it’s really time for the sport to grow in the country”
