The title says it all - planning to be in London for business May 4-8, and intend to carve out some TT time on Friday evening and Saturday. Staying in Bloomsbury area, not far from British Museum. Would appreciate suggestions for places to play and would love to get a chance to hit a few balls with fellow forum members.

Thanks!

Fantastic - it will be great to see you.

On Saturday you can play at Fusion TTC in Bermondsey/Deptford.

There are several options for Friday night, including Fusion, again.

so_devo can often play during the day, as can I, so we might be able to meet up with you during the afternoon on Friday, if that works for you.

Excellent - it will be fun to meet you again (and hopefully so_devo for the first time ;) ). Friday afternoon might be a challenge (work, you know...), but I'll know closer to the trip date.

As another radical idea - I would not mind getting a TT lesson while there, especially from someone knowledgeable about chopping/LPs. LordCope - I think you are taking lessons from a coach who fits the description?

I know of a few people. Rowden, whom I see once every month to 6 weeks, in Bournemouth (2 hrs from London by train) or Adam, my regular coach, in Portsmouth (1.5 hrs from London by train). However there's also a good Italian player/coach in London who gives lessons, but they carry, shall we say, a London tax. Any of these would be worthwhile - let me know if you'd like me to enquire about their availability.

A Friday evening option would be either seeing if the facility is free at my uni or going to Finsbury TTC near old street which is 'pay and play'. Both are quite convenient for Bloomsbury. I can probably do Friday afternoon/evening.

You are also quite near a 'bounce' venue but they don't do it for me!

Looked up Bounce club and I agree, these don't do it for me as well (we have similar one in Boston - Blazing Paddles).

Interesting that Finsbury club you mentioned is only opened 2 days a week, 2 hours per day, and yet has 40 league members playing in 6 local leagues? How is that possible, when do they practice etc.? :)

Hmmm...

Image

Interesting. I guess we now know what the show tables they used at the Olympics looked like - and where one of them ended up! The net looks a little saggy at the moment, though. Other photos of the venue show a bunch of Butterfly tables, so the tables, at least, are OK...

I checked and Blackpool is not that close to London :( . Jealous - I'd be interested to see what tournament in another country looks like.

Table Tennis England - Blackpool Grand Prix Events:
Vets, Senior Banded, Open & U21
Date: 7/8 May 2016 (CD 17/4/16)

Venue: Blackpool Sports Centre

Entry form and information about the event : http://tabletennisengland.co.uk/tournam ... rand-prix/

Blackpool is more my neck of the woods and yes, too far from London. Probably 5hr drive or 3.5hrs by train. M6 motorway is bad to travel at busy times but basically M6 til Preston and turn left on to M55 which starts there and drive to the end and you're in Blackpool.

So, this Italian player/coach in London - LC, would you mind sharing contact/making an introduction/inquiry? Sounds like I'll have time on Saturday. Also - when you talk about 'London tax' - I presume it means he/she charges more? What's a typical going rate for a lesson over there?

I'll PM you, and make an introduction.
