The podcast interview said the paddles are going to be plastic, so you can't sneak in an old wood blade of yours.

Actually, if you think about it.. that heavy ball might come in handy in regular table tennis, too - perhaps for ab-initio training. The 44mm ball works pretty well for this.

So what's happening with TTX? I've not heard anything since they first announced it. :o

Another brilliant idea from the people who brought us the 40-plus ball and 20% less spin.

Some news posted today:

ITTF wrote:
In addition to the ITTF World Tour deal, Seamaster has also came on board as TTX's exclusive commercial partner.
TTX is fun, exiting and dynamic - a perfect mix to attract more youth to our sport in a social setting and a perfect mass participation event. TTX is time bound, uses a heavier ball so it can be played anywhere, and the racket does not have any spin which breaks down the barriers for participation.

The ITTF, together with Seamaster, has been working hard since the launch of TTX at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to develop the equipment and technology to bring TTX to the world. Soon there will be rackets and balls available to all, and youthful, exciting mass participation TTX festivals to be held across the world, starting with one in Dusseldorf, just before the Liebherr 2017 World Table Tennis Championships.

'Exiting', yeah. Let's wait for mass participation. And it does not have (any) spin so it will break with the very one thing that made table tennis special and interesting to many, imho.

Hey, it's "cool and youthful." And who understands today's young people better than 60-year-old men? ITTF forever!!!

We've created an entire new business opportunity, and then partnered with some of our cronies to corner the market for 'approved' equipment for this entirely manufactured niche. But of course what we really care about is popularising table tennis, by spending our meagre advertising and marketing budget on something that bears almost no similarity to the sport in its present form.

Shhh!

With a power drill, a hole saw, a jig saw and some model railway diorama materials, everyone can convert boring old table tennis tables to TTX tables!
