The podcast interview said the paddles are going to be plastic, so you can't sneak in an old wood blade of yours.

Actually, if you think about it.. that heavy ball might come in handy in regular table tennis, too - perhaps for ab-initio training. The 44mm ball works pretty well for this.

'Exiting', yeah. Let's wait for mass participation. And it does not have (any) spin so it will break with the very one thing that made table tennis special and interesting to many, imho.

We've created an entire new business opportunity, and then partnered with some of our cronies to corner the market for 'approved' equipment for this entirely manufactured niche. But of course what we really care about is popularising table tennis, by spending our meagre advertising and marketing budget on something that bears almost no similarity to the sport in its present form.

With a power drill, a hole saw, a jig saw and some model railway diorama materials, everyone can convert boring old table tennis tables to TTX tables!
