While visiting Tokyo, my wife and I decided to check out some table tennis shops.
I posted some pictures of a couple of TT shops we found on page 2 and 3 of this thread.

We found a table tennis game room/bar. It's in a building not far from the main Shibuya intersection.
Each floor of the building has either bowling, billiards, darts........but the 9th floor is table tennis.


The building is called EST.

You go in and they hand you a box with two pen grip rackets, two shake hand rackets, some balls, and menu for food and drinks.....Heineken, Bitburger Pilsner, or Orion (an Okinawa beer).

What a great place!

I guess one thing some people might want to know is.. How cheap is a sheet of Tenergy in Tokyo?

It cost 8,300 yen ($81 USD).

The sale the shop was having at the time was 30% off all rubber except for Butterfly.
Butterfly rubber was discounted 10%.

I checked another TT store that is close to my home.
They were charging 7,500 Yen ($73 USD) for Tenergy.

Have been looking at Google Maps around Tokyo - there seem to be quite a few table tennis venues ranging from social (looks like they serve drinks) to deadly serious (the web page has prices for COACHING and classes, nothing for open play). Anyone know anything about particular venues?

Came across this just now.



There's information about the club they play at, turns out it's in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture, 90 minutes from Tokyo by train. Train fare seems to be about USD11. The video's information has a link to the club's web site. It's all in Japanese, but I suppose you could run it through Google Translate.
