I found a table tennis shop in Hiroshima, Japan. It's 45 Km from the base in Iwakuni.
I wanted to post some pictures along with a Google map link.

6-5 Hirosemachi

https://goo.gl/maps/s8zG6Yudd522

The name of this shop is "Sun Sports Club Hiroshima Housei"
This shop is also a school uniform shop, and seems to go by the "Hiroshima Housei" name.
"Housei" means (loosely translated) cutting/fabric/sewing/making.
If you ask someone nearby "Hiroshima Housei doko des-ka?", they will know what you're talking about.
However, if you as for "Sun Sports Club", or for "takkyu" (table tennis).......people may not know what you're looking for.

I believe this shop originally started as a sewing/uniform store, and later branched out into table tennis.
To me it looked like they were primarily a TT shop, but I guess locals still know it as the uniform store.

Not everyone in Japan is into table tennis, so when we were trying to find the exact store, people didn't seem to know about a table tennis store.
We were only two blocks away, and people didn't know about it when we ask for directions to a Takkyu store.
But when asked where the uniform store was.......they knew about that.
I just wanted to clarify that point, so if you are trying to locate it, you won't run into any frustration.
So, if you ask someone nearby "Hiroshima Housei doko des-ka?", they will know what you're talking about.

As another point of reference, this store is just a few shops away from a 7-11 convenience store.
If you are standing in front of (facing) the 7-11, the Table Tennis store is on your left.

Like the shops I recently visited in Tokyo, this store in Hiroshima is very well stocked with just about everything you would find in most gear catalogs.

There is also a place right next door where lessons/coaching is available.

If you happen to be traveling and find yourself in Hiroshima, or if you are living near Iwakuni, this is a great TT shop to visit.

Wow... Another great store!
I'm both very excited about upcoming trip to Japan in a couple of weeks, all those TT stores... But also saddened because I would feel guilty taking time from my wife and kid out of their holiday...

I wouldn't look at it as taking away from your family's enjoyment of a vacation.
Near these shops are always good Japanese restaurants along with other shopping.
You would still be able to have a balanced vacation if you included a visit to one of the
Tokyo TT stores.

Just a suggestion,

Choose the Shibuya store....."TT Kokusai"
Shibuya crossing is one of the main tourist areas; the main intersection is famous. Shibuya is also one of the main shopping areas, so you're likely to be going there anyway.

Once you are in the Shibuya area, the TT Kokusai store is there, along with a lot of shopping, and great restaurants.

If you only have time to visit on store, the Shibuya is your best bet.
The stores all stock the same stuff, so visiting one will be all you need.

I would suggest Shibuya.

Have a great trip Rokphish!
Cheers,
Mitch

Rokphish,

That is it!
If you look at my other thread, there is a link to the shop's website. They have a video link that is a walk-through of exactly how to get to the shop.

It is a small shop, but many stores in Japan are. However, it is well stocked.
I would imagine you will find anything your looking for.

The shop at Takatanobaba is a little bit bigger, and has tables upstairs.
In my opinion, the Takatanobaba store is a little nicer than the one at Shibuya.

However, as I mentioned before, IF you are pressed for time, and are concerned about entertaining family while squeezing in some TT EJ'ing.....then Shibuya Station is where I would go.

Another nice think about Shibuya Station (in addition to shopping and restsurants), is that a few minutes of walking (one main intersection over) gets you to the building that has table tennis. (See the link in one of the other threads).

They have 18 tables, you can play table tennis with your family if you want, and (important) order a beer. 8)

Enjoy your trip.

Cheers,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch.

I will see which location is closer and/or more convenient to our itinerary.

Having a place to play won't do me any good without friends to play with. Probably better if I can find a local tt club which I can drop by at night and play with whoever around at the time.

Looking forward to having japanese beers!
