Hello everyone,

I am a Kiwi/Aussie, which means I am a Kiwi by birth and an Aussie by choice. For those of you that aren't sure a Kiwi is a flightless bird native to New Zealand but I actually flew here, to Brisbane that is.

I chose the name Bionic for those old enough to remember a television show in the 60's called 'The Bionic Man' where the main character was reconstructed after an accident using artificial limb technology to recreate him "better than he was.." .Well that doesn't quite apply to me but I still liked the name enough to use it to indicate in a way that I do have some reconstructed joints, 3 to be exact, 2 artificial knees and 1 artificial hip.

My first introduction to Table Tennis was played in a friends rumpus room and the occasional game in the weekends at the local YMCA as a teenager. Fast forward some thirty-five years and I was reintroduced to the game in my lunchtime at work. After enjoying that for a couple of years I decided to join a club which I have been a member of for about 14 years

I play at the Wynnum Table Tennis Associaton in Brisbane. and now that I am retired play at least 3 times a week. I am 64 years of age and have just about every bad habit going especially table tennis ones,( I won talk about the other ones). Most of these habits arose from the period when through having painfull worn out knees and laterly hips, I was rather immobile and compensated for that by reaching out to play shots instead of moving. Consequently now that I am capable of moving better I now have to force myself to do it rather falling back on old habits. I have had to go back to basics to learn to play more conventional strokes.

I was drawn to this forum initially in search of information pertaining to the 'dark side', the use of pimples and wasnt disappointed although I have since found there is no substitute for personal experience. I have tried so many different pimples and have settled on pimples of the medium variety.

I might have remained a lurker on this site had it not been for a special offer that I received as a result of an email I sent to a blade manufacturer in Germany. I will talk more of this on another thread I will start in blades where I will use/test a new blade and talk about my journey in learning how to use it over the next 6 months. I hope you will join me!
