Since this is a TT forum, we need a thread on this recent development on LGL and the China Open!

Ma Long, Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong all failed to turn up for their last 16 matches at the China Open earlier today - their boycott was a protest: they were among a group of CNT players and coaches protesting at Liu Guoliang's deposition as chief coach.
The crowd were chanting 'Liu Guoliang!'.

Yeah, I haven't been following the LGL and the China Open news until reading in other forums today. This is big and messy! I hope it doesn't get too nasty, and it can when Chinese politics is involved.
If it involves someone higher up in the political ladder, it can get nasty.
-It reminds me of the TT era in the "old days" when politics was involved. Great player committed suicide... friends / teammates did not talk to years...players were ordered to lose not just to teammates, but to another country. I know it's not the same nowadays.
-It's good though, to see players (and coaches) uniting and standing firm together. This, is already progress.

Wow. Any Chinese players left? "resulting in very negative social influences" sounds very "Chinese" indeed... Will have to go check out ITTF's tournament page to see what's going on. Looks like Igor's hopping mad (in more ways than one) at mytt... My goodness.

http://www.ittf.com/2017/06/23/day-thre ... o-survive/

"..no Chinese left in the draw.."

This is historic, for all the wrong reasons.

It seems someone in the China National Sports Administration is attempting to curtail Cai Zhen Hua, the former CNT chief coach who was "promoted" into the council, by first get rid of LGL.

This guy you are speaking of, who is head of the national Sports Administration (GSA), is named Gou Zhongwen, and has some really bizarre (insane) ideas. Among other things, he thinks that field hockey players ought to be able to play ice hockey too (in his mind learning to skate would be a trivial obstacle), and that shooters should be able to compete in the biathlon in the Winter Olympics (they would need to ski first), because "why win just four gold medals when you could win twelve?". Following his theory of "cross-borders" meaning (as best as I can tell)that the sport you are expert in really doesn't matter, he just named a champion of Taekwondo to be head coach of the women's national soccer team! I am not kidding.

He has no background in sports. He was Vice-Mayor of Beijing before being named to head what is essentially the Ministry of Sports (GSA). Before that he was some sort of government guy in charge of the IT sector, and before that he had a role in placing the Communist Party Secretaries into universities (the people who watch over the university administration to make sure they are properly ideological). I am limited in what I can learn about him because I can't read Chinese, but this much I found. Sometimes it is hard for me to tell if the Google translation is misleading me or whether he is really that crazy, but his actions do tend to speak loudly and some of what he has done and said I was directed to by forumers elsewhere who are native Chinese speakers. Maybe some of you here might be interested into learning more about this guy.

His thinking reminds me a bit of Cultural Revolution sort of logic (ideology trumps all) but he is 60 years old which means he was just a kid in those days. The current government has some shades of those days in their rhetoric at least.

So, will he survive this affair? He has up to now. But I am told he is taking a beating on Chinese social media.

Looks like Ovtcharov won vs. Boll in the final. Of the Chinese Open. Wow. Kinda like that Formula One race last night on the telly...

Probably "cross pollination"? Perhaps he's trying to prevent in-breeding within a sport and inject new ideas (hence moving coaches around)? And maybe he thinks he can get people who excel in a sport that China does very well in to take up sports that he'd LIKE to see China do well in... Who knows...

Perhaps we'll get a few more players defecting to countries like Australia, which could certainly help us to become more competitive!

You said it. There is something really wrong with the all-china sports general managment.. Brain intoxication maybe..

THE DUCK THAT LAIED GOLDEN EGGS.

They displaced LGL from the National Team coaching post for no good reason.
They killed the Golden Duck. Such a folly.

And as expected China will have prosperity at the expense of everything else! Control + Power + Spin ! Say no! to winning!

Can we have Ma Long or Xu Xin or FZD defect to some other place ? I would like to see loads of Chinese coaches and players defect as soon as possible.

Seriously though, is it possible to get everyone out with their close families quickly ?

Looks like China will have it TT Peking Duck / Goose deeply fried, tortured, abused before being served to the CPC fat cats.
