Key quote for me was this:

"According to a recent I.T.F. study, there were 14,000 nominally professional tennis players entering tournaments around the globe in 2013. But 6,000 of them, including many juniors, did not earn even $1. Given the costs of travel, coaching, conditioning, medical care and equipment, only 336 men and 253 women broke even; forget making a profit"

~300 players making a living is probably not too bad, similar to what happens in Golf, I think. Still, sobering numbers.

I know you make $300 for getting to the final 16 in the 2017 ITTF Sweden tournament. That won't even cover the hotel, not to mention travel and food.
