Post subject:  Have you seen this pimple grip test device before?
Has anyone seen this device before? I believe it's for testing the grip of long pimples.
I don't know how it works, or if it's an official device:

by the translation of the video, it is a machine that verify if the pimples has been treaten. But it's not saying treaten for what. A change of caracteristics of the pimples by the company fabricant. It lloks that the federation is looking forward for this machine. I'm not sure here. Just trying to understand. It is made by a genuine company Sisport.

It looks like it's for detecting frictionless pimples which were banned some time ago.

Yes, I would think it's for testing the minimum friction level, which is set by the ITTF for the purpose of approving rubbers. If this gadget is used officially though, it would fail legal and untreated rubbers as well, which have simply lost friction over the time.
One could argue that if it's lost so much friction from it's new condition, it's too worn anyway, but then the same rules would need to apply for inverted rubbers and anti, but no such rule exists.

Did the ITTF actually set a standard minimum friction level when they banned FLPs, or was it a "know it when I see it" type of deal where they just banned a bunch of rubbers by name and told manufacturers that nothing new with treated tips was getting approved?

They did set a minimum friction level, but did not disclose how they were going to measure it, nor is there any official device AFAIK.

Mr. Giordano is full of hopes of getting eventually his device endorsed by FITET Italian table tennis association for use in all domestic events.
If this happens, every competitive player would have to obtain this Tester, and check his rubber for his better safety prior to entering an event.

By my own estimatIon, the prospective sales of this product may be around 5000 units all over Italy.

And if the air is dry the pips would fail, whereas if it's humid the pips would pass. If it's high elevation the pips could fail, but not at sea level. The temperature could affect the outcome. Unless you're in a lab under controlled conditions, this device is inconsistent. Plus the rule is the pips must have a certain friction when approved for the LARC. All rubbers change over time. This is just bad science and not fair to pimples players.

And this makes the situation different for pimple players in what way?

I agree that this is targetting the minimum friction rule which is only for pimples out rubber, and treating pimples rubber to bring them under.

If only there was a similar test for boosting that was equally (!) foolproof. Ah I amuse myself.
