Hello, I'm a new member of this forum and relatively new to some of the more advanced parts of the game. I play at work with a group of about 20. I'm currently the #1 player. We set up a ranking system based on some of the chess-ranking methodologies. I just bought my first custom setup PG7, NEO H3 on FH and BH. But enough about me, my main question is how can I compare my game vs the club and official rankings? Can someone list the official ranking system and maybe summarize tiers based on skill attributes? Thank you :)

The only reliable way to compare your game/level/skill/rating against club players is to play them. The way ELO and other rating systems work, they are susceptible to 'close pool' problem, that is a small group of players who only play each other (like you do).

It will do a good job figuring out who is #1 among you (congrats!), but whatever rating number you end up with is meaningless for comparison against players none of you played with. We have this issue here - RatingsCentral numbers for AU and US are pretty much impossible to compare.

So, go find a club and see how you stack up against them. Definitely worth it.

Easiest way is to watch these.
http://www.ratingscentral.com/Videos.php

There used to be a USATT version of this with skill descriptions, but I can't find it

Thanks Silver, I took a look at those videos. I think I am prolly somewhere in the 800-1000 range for the USATT ratings based on those. I'm thinking most of the members of this forum are probably much better than that though.

There was a fun thread about forum member ratings somewhere, but take it with a grain of salt. It was for entertainment value rather than any real serious attempt at a yardstick measure.

Perhaps, but - when I found this and other TT forums ~ 5 years ago, I was around that level too. Plus, it does not matter much what other people's level is, although it helps to put presented material and opinions in context.

I agree with PGPG. Only reliable way is to play some folks with a rating...preferably at a club. Some basement or casual players are better than they think, sometimes far worse. I was far worse than I thought, being the best player at a rec center, then getting owned by a lower level player at a club.

The other part, is that the actual equipment is far different than the premades most people play with in casual situations.

If my current self played my former rec center self, I bet rec center japsican wouldn't even return but maybe 1 serve a game.
