I saw this guy play when he won the 2010 ICC Open and was really impressed. At that time I think he was playing leagues in Spain.

He played on the Westchester team at 2016 Joola NA Teams last weekend. I think he has lost a little speed since 2010, but is still very good. Good enough to beat the 2014 US Open winner Tao Wenzhang. I am not sure, but guess he must be around 30 now.

He beats a 2500 player 11-4,11-4,11-1 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jXK9zH4lU4

His match with Tao (where he comes back from 7-10 in the 5th) is here: https://youtu.be/_ppEdAAOJjU?t=8m32s

You can find more of his matches by scanning through the 3 days of video here: https://www.youtube.com/user/usatabletennis/playlists

Don't forget there are 2 tables to check.

His 2 losses during the tournament were Rosskopf and Bob Chen.

You can see the full results here: https://natabletennis.com/tournaments/results.php

BTW, with 714 players in 11 divisions, Alameda 1 (Kai-12 yrs, Aziz-10 yrs and Vikash-adult) took first in Division 3.

Found an interview here: http://pongtalk.blogspot.com/2016/03/in ... -wang.html

Says he is now 32, and is using "TSP short pips".

Seems to like to add sidespin to his chops similiar to Hou Yingchao, though not quite to the same degree. Thanks for posting!

Yes an impressive player!

A little hard to watch... they take so long between points, they must be pushing that time limit. :o

Since the stream is no longer live you can skip ahead during towel breaks and end changes etc.

If you know Wei Wang, you know that he has very good and varied serves.

At the Joola teams I saw Wei play some matches where he served almost all forehand. I find it interesting that he was able to serve the same backhand serve the entire match with Kenji. I might have missed it, but I think he served backhand every time he served.

This leaves me with the feeling that Wei had more game that he could have brought to the table, but Kenji was not a strong enough opponent to force him to.

Next match is chopper vs chopper as he will face Hou Yingchou. So we will have a chopper in the final for sure.

In the other half of the draw we have Bob Chen and the winner of Kaito Fujimoto and #2 seed Jin Takuya.

I watched this match from the stands- and honestly did not mind the time between points. Tension was palpable - and nether Kenji or Wei seemed to object..

Agree with haggisv on the time taken between points - quite painful to watch.

US Open Men's Single final, Wang Wei vs Bob Chen streams at 7:30 pm Pacific.

* edit - Apparently the women's final is first. So men should be around 8:30. *
