Post subject:  One off coaching session suggestions

Hi All,

I have been asked to run a "Table Tennis Lessons" session as part of a staff activity week (get fit type initiative) at the university where I work.

It'll be 3 or 4 tables, up to 12 people, 1 hour.

Any suggestions on how to structure it and make it fun?

Keith

I would do more novelty/moving stuff, where everyone is involved eg

A bit of basics maybe - Not too much! How to hold the bat if necessary, bounce the ball on your bat,
A bit of forehand to forehand, etc. 10 mins

Run around ping pong - have them line up, against your multiball feed (or just returning it) hit one, run around the table then go to the back of the line. Or if enough, have both sides going, hit one line up on the other side. Sit-out-if-miss optional 10-15mins?

Maybe spend a bit of time on how to serve - keep it short and sweet, throw ball up from open palm, it needs to bounce twice, what what a good return is. Then a bit of practice. 10 mins?

Finish off with 1game Top table singles. 15-20 mins

I would avoid rule intensive things like doubles - unless you have people who know rules.
