Hi,

Just curious. What's a typical week for you in terms of playing or practising table tennis?

For me it's

Monday: 18.45 - 22:00 Coaching duties
Tuesday: Free
Wednesday: 19.15 - 22.45 Support table tennis team
Thursday: Free
Friday: 18.45 - 22:00 Coaching / Helping at Friday Social session
Saturday or Sunday will usually involve coaching / support at tournaments

Interspersed with that I help maintain our leagues website, visit forums, research equipment and work on my PathfinderPro project / business plans.

During the winter league, I'll probably spend an additional evening supporting family who play in Preston Colts in our league - a junior team used to help youngsters get used to playing in a league environment in a controlled and supported environment.

Finding a balance between family / work / coaching/helping and supporting people I know play table tennis is getting to be rather tricky. Family though, has to come first. Thankfully my girlfriend and her children are heavily in to table tennis. No one on my side of the family is though.

How do you balance it all / what are your priorities?

Monday evening: Free practice for about 2 hours, may include practice matches.

Tuesday 13.00-15.00: Run a session at the local Ping Pong Parlour in the Mall for older people. We have 4 tables in an otherwise empty unit, and the turnout is widely varied, from 57 to 86 in age, and from 25 to 5 in numbers.
Tuesday 18.30-19.30: Help coach juniors (10-16 roughly in age). Run by a level 3 coach.
Tuesday 19.30-21.00: We have 2 Level 3 coaches to give some structured drills etc to senior players. Frankly, after biking 6 miles to get there and then having to clear away exam tables and then set up table tennis tables, I am normally quite tired by the time the junior session is finished, and sit out the senior session.

Wednesday: vegetate while watching streamed matches, atm the UTT.

Thursday evening: As it is Summer, we are into Summer league which is in the form of 2 man teams, and handicapped games best of three to 21. This is good fun, as I get the chance to play in competition against much better players, with an outside chance of winning. Handicaps run from -20 (top 150 in England player) to +16. There is a mysterious and ineffable method for working out the actual numbers when playing.

Friday: More free practice.

Weekends: Look at the garden and think I really must do something about that. Occasionally help out at some TT based charity event in the city.

Tuesday and Thursday 2.5 hours drills with a friend
Sunday 3 hours with another friend 1 hour drills 2 hours matches

Most other days practice 30-60 minutes serves and with the return board

One day off every week, which day varies. I used to do seven days but I'm too old and feeble now and will break down after a few weeks.

Monday to Thursday evenings - I usually play in one or two league matches in local leagues. If I'm not playing a match then the evening is free.
Friday - there is a club practice night but I rarely go
Saturday morning 9:30 to 11:00 am Local Club open practice
Sunday - occasional tournaments or have one or two hours practice with a local coach

I'm spending the summer getting fitter as I had fitness and injury problems last season. So far I'm down more than 9 kilos and working on core strengthening hopefully to reduce back problems and if this works I may play more next season (from September to April).

Wednesday 19.00-22.00 play matches (single/double) and some drills with whoever wants to practice.

Friday 19.00-22.00 play matches (single/double) and some drills with whoever wants to practice.

Sunday 13.00-17.00 play matches (single/double) and some drills with whoever wants to practice.

With the breaks of waiting for turns and what not, probably 1-2 hours of play on week nights and 2-3 hours of play on Sunday. Sometimes play from the get go to closing time.

Thanks for sharing. People on this forum seem to play or practise quite a lot. Before I got in to helping out at coaching I'd probably play a match once a week and maybe go to a social session to wind down as well. That's two nights a week. Now it's a lot more. How do people balance playing table tennis with family and work commitments, especially if your family are not interested in table tennis?

Mine's reasonably variable but the standard is :
Monday: Fixture night, with generally 1 hour-2 hours training beforehand
Wednesday: Every second Wed I get coached with my training partner - official coaching. The opposing Wednesday I will train with whoever I can - there's a few options! Generally about 2-3 hours. This is when I do my coaching sessions also when I can
Fridays: Group Training Squad for 2 hours, as well as any private coaching that I've been asked to do

Tournaments: Between Feb-end of June there's multiple tournaments that I spend weekends on. Rest of the year my weekends are reasonably free - apart from the "Big" state and national Vet's that I will be going to.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are generally all clear - But when I was coaching more sometimes I'd make use of Thurs!

Sat, Sun / Weekends ---- AKG TT club morning 7 - 9am

Rest of the time I don't get to play TT due to work, personal stuff, etc :-)

If I could I would be @ the table all day :-D

Does anyone play at a club which is open 24/7? If you can play at a club open all hours, how busy does it get at peak times and what are those peak times.

We can only open in the evenings as we hire what is now a school owned table tennis facility. 1 night coaching, 3 nights match play, 1 night social session. Not open at all Saturday or Sunday.

Tuesday: If I'm lucky, I get to play every other week on Tuesdays.
Wednesday: Do what my wife says.
Thursday: Play usually. for 1.5 hours.
Friday: Do what my wife says.
Saturday: Do what my wife says.
Sunday: Get into an argument with my wife when she says "All i ever do is play ping pong." maybe once a month I play league on sundays.

Monday of next week: threaten to quit because my level continues to spiral downward.
