Hello friends,

I will be in Minsk for the next 14 days. If anyone is or knows of a table tennis player, club, tournament, or coach, please let me know.... have bat, have travelled!

Hmm, Google is not very helpful, much to my surprise. Posted a message on a Russian forum, I think there were a couple of folks from Minsk there - may be they will show up here to tell you more.

Good luck - there for work, I presume?

Pretty good - where it's from? Unless you came up with it, then it's even more impressive

Looks like you are in luck:

Tuesday/Thursday open play at 8 pm:

проспект Победителей, 63/1-1 (prospect Pobeditelei 63) - looks like a national training facility

Sunday Leagues:

You can probably translate it with Google or have someone in Minsk help you.

4th league is open to everyone, it seems, starts at 4 pm.

I thought a bunch of people would recognize this... Can't claim credit for it, of course... (there's a word in the song that would apply if I did.. )

Yes, it makes sense now, except I did not grew up in the US, so largely missed out on his stuff.

Thanks very much pgpg! I'd already identified the centre, and am going to have a session there today. I didn't know about the Sunday league - that's really useful, and I'll probably enter that this weekend.

Didn't come across him myself, until I was in college (roommate of a friend had some records - the vinyl ones..). Apparently he taught Mathematics at Harvard, but they also let him teach a course called (IIRC) "American Popular Song". Someone who was in one of these classes posted on rec.sport.table-tennis in the late 90s, apparently Lehrer would sit at the piano and the students would sing along. They couldn't believe they were allowed to take it for credit and he couldn't believe they were paying him to teach it. There was probably a long waiting list, I'd have loved to have been there.
