Lin Gayoyan played very well in the earlier rounds of Asian Games destroying his opponents with fast of the bounce style attacks and really fast reflexed counters.

Then he faces Fan Zhendong and the game seems to all BH flicks for Lin. I briefly counted than Lin made 80 % of his top spin attack's with BH and most often with BH flick.

I wonder if we making move towards "one shot" table tennis, where BH flick is all you need...

In the 6th game Lin made 8 errors in trying to BH flip/rip and one error in BH counter. :o

BH flips are answers to short serves at the edges of each side. This is a great skill easy to practice and learn first done by peter korbell chiquita
If u r right handed and u r playing left handed opponent then its a great shot to play as now they have to serve to your forehand and need to be very defensive serving i mean they have to serve very short which is very difficult only some pros do esp chinese. Its vice versa too thats why u see Lin going for it.
If ur opponent starts doing this best thing is to disguise top spin in the short serve for ex ma lin did this very effective and also the mozart waldner did it very effective if u see the olympics match between him and timo boll, boll has no idea what he will be facing next.
BH flips more commonly used now as the plastic ball stays up a bit longer in air than the celluloid ball and also bounces always bit higher so making short serves u cant add lot of power in them ,as soon as u add u see the bounce too much on opposite side and then they flick it easily.

Looks very Harimoto-like. (Though Harimoto would also use his very good forehand flick a lot more.) Probably in response to the serves rather than anything else..
