I have bought a number of rubber sheets over the past 2 years, all from reputable suppliers. some of the rubber has a number stamped in a rectangular box eg 24-054 alongside the ittf logo. Other sheets have no box and no number but do have the ittf logo. These are all sold as new. i recently was refused entry to a local competition as one of the sheets on my blade fell into the second category. Can anyone shed light on this please?

Not all rubbers have the ITTF number but it must have the ITTF logo and must be listed in the current LARC. If your rubber is listed here, you should not have been refused entry:

Yes I agree with Dusty054. Some of the old rubbers don't have the box with the number, but they're still on the LARC so they're perfectly legal.

The numbers are a relatively recent thing ("relatively recent" meaning donkey's years.. ). A lot of rubbers were already on the market before that and those don't have a number. These same rubbers are being made with the same old molds and are still on the market. Even some of the richer companies (Butterfly) still haven't revised these old rubbers (e.g. Sriver L and Sriver S) with new molds. Some, like DHS, have revised some of the older rubbers to assign them numbers. PF-4 (which came out in the 1970s or 80s) is now 24-004. This does require new molds.

If you print out and carry a copy of the LARC with you you could show it to the organizers.
