Months ago ...
Find out about grants for equipment through the sport's national body
Kick around ideas for how to apply for said grant
Happen on a project that appears to fit the grant guidelines
Fill out the grant appropriately using Supplier 1's products and prices
Submit the grant
Wait for the results of the grant proposal
Find out that we have been awarded a fair proportion of what was requested
Contacted by Supplier 1 saying they are ready, willing and able at any time and that deals can be made

Decision is made in committee for another to negotiate with suppliers
Order is firmed with Supplier 2 and also to include an additional table

A fortnight ago ...
Panic from negotiator as it is realized that Supplier 2 does not deliver on weekends and it will cost extra for assembly
Resolved to pay for these

Delivery confirmed for last Saturday 2 hours before play is to commence
Players advised that there will be small opening ceremony via email & text
Supplier 1 unhappy with how has been treated - not contacted at all by negotiator
VIP from sport's national body invited to address small opening ceremony

Last Saturday ...
1:15pm Equipment to be delivered to venue, allowing 2 and a quarter hours for assembly
1:18pm Arrived at venue having intended arriving at 1:00pm - no-one else there
1:20pm Negotiator arrived at venue to assist with things
... Swept hall floor as normal
... Swept half of the storage area
2:40pm Equipment arrives and is placed all over the hall
Assemblers have to borrow my (wife's) scissors to cut packing tape for cartons tables are in
3:00pm VIP from sport's national body arrives, as well as head of our local association
3:30pm No tables have been assembled. We get half of the hall cleared, put up 2 of the old tables and the new barriers
3:45pm The first new table is assembled ready for use, so the opening ceremony is done with yours truly & VIP speaking
3:50pm VIP does the inaugural smash on the new table
... As new tables are finished assembly they are put to use
... The deliverers are unable to take the old tables away
... Yours truly rearranges the storage room and stores away the old tables
5:25pm Time to pack up
5:31pm Yours truly is the last out the door and locks up
... Later on that evening receive email with photos taken by president of local association

Last Sunday ...
am Receive 2 texts and a phone call about buying the old tables. I direct them to the negotiator.
pm Read email where yours truly is nominated on the association's facebook page as the contact for the old tables
evening Send off word document with embedded picture as a report to the local paper to hopefully be printed
evening Send off same to VIP & president to go on the sport's governing body website and perhaps thje local association's

Monday ...
Apparently all old tables have been sold, and all will be picked up next Saturday.

Saturday afternoon ...
Arrive on time to see that the delivery guy is waiting to pick up the old tables. He waits while I mark them as previously instructed. He then asks me to mark the suburb they are to go to as well. Last thing, I hand him the old nets.

When I was able to play on the new ones, noticed that spin on the ball was really taking on the table. It reminded me of the Summit no star balls we had been using up until very recently on the old tables.

Monday morning ...
Receive text asking if the delivery guy had taken the 3 old nets. Responded in the affirmative.

Hopefully the end of the diary except for discussion / report at next committee meeting.

Last night ...
At committee meeting ask for $20 reimbursement on $36.55 spent as some leftover food etc taken home and consumed. Get approval for the whole amount. Commit to filling out the non-money parts of the grant final report in the next few days. Share that instead of the local paper running our story that I got it run in the local monthly "lifestyle" magazine.

Nearly finished the exercise :).

Last Saturday morning ...
Sent off banking details to get recompensed for providing food at the opening. Wrote up the acquittal report for the grant and passed it on for the final money spent to be added, general review and signing by our secretary. Unfortunately other matters raised their ugly head not to do with this for the committee to deal with ...
