Just had another thought about Adham's comment on the rule changes being made for top level competition.... If this is the case, why did they ban the frictionless pips... they are hardly ANY players that use these pips at those levels...

There's a long video interview posted today on the ITTF site with Sharara. Of course, he avoids any mention about banning frictionless, but he clearly states that all the changes were made to make the game more TV friendly and spectator friendly. Regarding the glue ban, he said it's for health reasons, but a nice side effect is that the water-based glue slows down the game making the game more TV/spectator friendly. In previous comments he has displayed distaste for frictionless play and I'm sure he doesn't find it TV friendly, which seems to be his #1 mission, so I think he's behind the frictionless ban.
